Wanted: S2 ABY Coupe

I have a mate, who in the next couple of weeks will be looking to purchase an S2 ABY Coupe (sorry 3b owners - he wants a 6-speed).

I suggested we look here first, as I said there was more chance of finding a well looked after example.

Any colour, mileage is not an issue (as we all know) provided the car has evidence of being well maintained and thus, any age will be considered. Condition is the key factor! A homefry or MRC re-map would be of particular interest but not essential

Although there may not be anyone here right now considering selling their beloved S2, I'm hoping there's someone who might at least know of one and more importantly, it's history.

Oh, and distance is not an inssue - will travel anywhere for right car.

This forum is obviously a good place to start. Get your friend to do some searching and reading on here, there is a wealth of information on buying and maintaining and S2.

My only advice would be not to rush into buying one and look at a few before taking the plunge. These cars are fantastic, but a wrong'un will cost you an arm and a leg!

Yeah that's the type of thing we are looking for, but I don't know if that will still be available in the next couple of weeks. However, I totally agree, I would like as many options as possible.

PS Are we becoming rare - there's no ABY Coupe's on Autorader and only 5 S2's in total?

According to the production data on S2Central, only 1570 ABY coupes were ever produced worldwide, of which we saw approximately 400. Quite rare to begin with then, let alone 10 years after the last car was sold in the UK!

Interestingly enough, looks like the UK saw the same number of ABY coupes as 3Bs, even though just under 4 times more 3Bs were manufactured in total.

Can't be many of the 320 UK Avants left around, what with them being broken for spares on ebay all the time, and on here for that matter!

Remember that in the UK when 3Bs were being sold, a lot of people were more worried about having their homes repossessed, than buying a car worth more than half the price of the average house.
