As much as I love the RS2, I still prefer the shape of the Coupe and would rather have an RS2 type upgrade in the S2 engine bay than an RS2. Although I would love and RS2 aswell if I could!

OK for you Ross, here are some recent pics of my RS4:

Here is quick my RS2 vs B7 RS4 comparison:
They are quite different in the way they drive, but basically they are both as fast as each other. The RS2 gives good old school turbo excitement, whereas the RS4 as masses of torque at idle (you can't beat the cubes in that regard) and revs like a screaming banshee. When I first got the RS4 that felt slow compared to the RS2, but then driving the RS4 the RS2 can feel slow when you go back to it. I think this is due the very different throttle responses - the RS2 is a long travel cable throttle which you treat aggresively to extract performance, whereas the RS4 is a fly-by-wire set up which you just caress. Having said that I find it easier to modulate the throttle on the RS2 than the RS4, which can sometimes feel like a simple on/off switch. You miss the turbo kick of the RS2 when first driving the RS4. But boy does the RS4 sound good, it is like a cross between a Ducatti/Cosworth DFV8/Mershershmitt 109 - this is utterly addictive. The area in which 12 years of further development shows is in the ride and handling - the RS4 is simply amazing in this regard. It feels small and agile with good steering feel, which cannot be said of the RS2. Because of this alone it would take a very good driver of an RS2 to keep up with a driver of average skill in a RS4 along any B road stretch. However, the RS4 rear leg room is worse than my wife's Golf, being probably 4 inches less than the RS2. So what is the best overall package, well that is down to personal preference and of course cost. I have been lucky in that I have found a way to finance the RS4, which is costing me less than it would to do the same with a new Golf R32/ Audi TT (so obviously not a difficult decision there then). The S2/RS2 value for money cannot be touched by the RS4. But who knows in 10-15 years if the government has its way a 4.2 V8 may be almost valueless, even if it is marginally more economical than a 2.2 5cyl turbo
