Yes, after only 6 weeks (if that...) I'm getting rid of the S2. Why? Well, there are a few reasons that when put together make for a very strong argument.
1) I drive two miles to work each day, in stop start traffic. I then drive to the supermarket, to my friends and family's houses and that's about it. 95% of my driving is around town on 30 and 40 limits, where I can't use any of the performance.
2)When I go out for the 5% journeys on country roads and motorways it's just too quick. If the power is there, I'm going to use it. I'm a bit worried that continued exposure to seriously illegal speeds is either going to lose me my licence, or kill me (more likely). Given that my wife is due to give birth in a month, the later is a less than ideal option...
3)Jesus this thing is costly to run! Again given that the next six months or so will see the wife getting statutory maternity pay (£110 ish a week) I need all the money I can get my hands on. By switching to a diesel
the tax, fuel and insurance savings mount up to £1200 a year, which is a massive amount to me at the moment.
So anyway, there are the reasons. Now for the car:
It's a 1996(N) S2 Avant in Ruby Red. It's currently showing just under 150,000 on the clock, and has a full service history including a huge stack of receipts and the like. It's got all the usual S2 toys, plus a ful grey leather interior (not heated) which is in great condition apart from a little discolouration on the side of the driver's seat base.
It's standard apart from the following mods:
MTM 262 bhp chip
RS2 Springs/shocks
URS6 front discs with TT225/S3 calipers (310mm ish)
The car had a health check done yesterday by Doug at MRC and it got a thumbs up. It runs well, and is very quick. It holds boost well.
Originally I though it had a problem with hesitation and poor performance. Turns out it was crap fuel. Running on Tesco 99 octane it's great.
The bodywork is in very good condition for the year. There are a few scratches here and there, but nothing obvious. There is a tiny dent just in front of the driver's side mirror, but it's only noticable when you're loking for it.
The tax is due at the end of April and the MOT is due late July. It'll need the cambelt doing sometime in the next 10-15 thousand miles.
The bad bits:
Rear wiper/washer doesn't work. I'll try and get this sorted before the sale.
Clunking noise from front ARB. Bushes most likely. I'll try and get these done as well.
Air Con doesn't work. There's a leak somewhere. It holds gas for a couple of months and blows cold when it's just been charged.
Now, I only bought it six weeks ago (ish), so I don't want to go losing much money on it already. I want £4500 for it, and will accept a very near offer. The car is in Northampton, and I'm quite happy for people to come and inspect it whenever they want.

I'm going to replace it with a Golf GT TDI 130. With a remap it'll have nearly as much torque as the S2, with none of the grip
