    NG Block and Crank.

As per title I have a perfectly good NG block and crankshaft sat in my workshop doing nothing, it has no rods, pistons or oil/water pumps.

I was going to make a Coffee table out of it and may well end up doing just that if no one wants it.

However I've spoken to a couple of members recently who are in the process of converting either NG or 7A blocks to 20VT spec as it is after all the same basic casting, the NG block has oil squitter's for cooling the underside of the pistons as does the 7A.

It's in good condition, the bores have been coated in grease to protect them, though I expect it would need re boring to do the conversion anyway, also it's covered 220K miles so I would imagine the bores are now slightly oval.

The crank journals have all also been coated in white grease.

I really don't know if anybody would be interested in it but it would be yet another big heavy item out of my way and I'd rather parts get recycled than made into furniture.

    £100 collected.

I will stick it on a pallet for buyers who can't collect, though they have to arrange their couriers.

    Thanks

Good evening, to be honest off the top of my head I don't know, but it's perfectly feasible as the casting is essentially the same as a 20VT block. Obviously you'll need oversize S2 pistons along with conrods, though there could also be ways of making a stroker of sorts using custom rods and pistons it as it's going to need re-boring regardless.

You'd be better of asking on the forum under the technical section and find someone who's done it either with one of these or a 7A as they'll know exactly what's involved.

I've done a bit of research into using this bottom end for a 20VT build as I've been asked a few times...

I'll let anyone interested do their own research as if your building a motor from scratch you need to know what your doing not be told by someone else who may give you inaccurate information.

I will say this though... It would be much easier to use this a basis for a 3B build than an ABY/AAN/ADU due to the cambelt tensioning arrangement being the same on the NG block. I have a 3B block in my workshop (which is 100% sold) and I've had a close look and as far as I can see they're identical apart from the diameter of the bores.
