    Imola S4 2.7 *DIL 5170* - Buyer Beware

Just in case any of you guys are thinking about buying an S4 B5, read on...

ChrisM and I agonised over the title of this one, including :-

    Another waste of time;
    Another heap of $hite: and
    What a *anker!

As Chris is busy, I thought it best to get this up now, in case anyone is considering going to view it over the weekend, and settled on the above title.

    Where to start...??

Well, the car is advertised on Pistonheads here : http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/195188.htm

What the picture doesn't show is the patchwork of variations of yellows, the most obvious one being that the bonnet is a completely different colour to the surrounding panels! Shocked

The claim in the advert that "The body work of the car is in excellent condition, and the black leather interiors' condition belies the cars age and mileage." can only be described as complete and utter bull

The bodywork that hasn't been badly resprayed is littered with blisters and scratches. There are cracks and scratches in the rear bumper and spoiler which the owner claimed he didn't know were there.

The leather is well worn for a car with allegedly 117k miles (which we didnt bother verifying with Vagcom) and the interior was a tip.

The owner had not even bothered to wash or clean the car and the general condition can best be described as shabby - the pictures in the ad really don't do it justice!

The bodywork has clearly been subject to some fairly serious surgery, as evidenced by the poor respray work.

Hardly worth mentioning in the scheme of things, but there is a naff boost gauge fitted in a ridiculous place to the bottom right of the steering wheel, and the DVs are the original 710Cs.

The car can be found in Cardiff, Monmouth, or Bristol, depending on where the owner happens to be on the day.

Verdict : steer well clear of this heap!!

This is a factual and balanced account of our inspection - the fact that there are no positive points is because there are none.

No doubt Chris will add his 2p tomorrow if I have missed anything.

perhaps the cause of the dodgy paintwork!

Yeah, it war RIL 5710 Clive

      WHAT A ****ER

You missed off the fact the car is advertised at £5400 but ended been bidded upto over 6k, call it piston-bay!!

Stay well clear, the fact his first comment when i started to look round it - ''Hardly any marks on it is there? '' to which i just loked at him Only too me 10 mins max to decide it was a wreak. Rubbing compund in all the nooks and crannies, over spray everywhere, small rust patches and the fact it was dirty too

He also looked disgusted that i said i wouldn't touch it, don't worry about our 4 hour disapointing drive, K N O B!!! Can't believe he described it as excellent condition.

      Bottom line....... RUBBISH!!
      Cheers,

      Chris

Huh! and there's me slating this car and I can't even get the registration number right...!

So actually, there was a positive point about the car - the number plate was accurately described...! Well done, Russel! (why isnt there a smilie for KNOB on this forum...??)

I've sent him a message to ask him where to send the bill for our wasted trip, but oddly enough he hasn't replied yet...

                I hate these people.

We met a few like that when we were looking for the S3. Luckily we'd normally plan a day trip to see about half a dozen in a day, so some trips weren't too much of a waste of time.

I love it when they use the phrase "Oh. I've never noticed that before." Especially when it's something like the overspray being so bad, you can hardly see out the windows.

Did the guy walk out to greet you with a white stick and a pair of sunglasses?

Wthout being too depressed about this, that's probably why I bought our S2 from a reputable after market Audi specialist, our B6, A4q from a main dealer and, the last 'private' purchase of a car being our ur-quattro some 13 years ago...

I've recently been looking at buying another ur-quattro as a 'project'... and to be fair, the one's we've seen so far are not worth driving out of the county for, let alone the length of the country, and the belief that, when you see it, you'll buy it, is ******... The latest visit to one (a mere 90 miles away) saw a £2k car (with boot floor access from underneath and iffy front end accident repair)... Described as excellent condition... £6,495.00..

                    Car searching...

It's probably waisted more gallons of fuel than the Space Shuttle.

I know what you mean, I drove over to see a G60 Corrado on the way into Wales advertised as Taxed and Motd.. for 1400.. Guy described as Imacculate with the only mark being a broken tailgate lock and a small patch of rust on the bottom of the passenger door. FSH recon charger etc etc lovingly owned by his daughter for 10 years! Sounded like a bargain user friendly car... Arrived to see a tired faded every panel laquer peeled scratched dinked heap of a Corrado that was sussposed to be red but was pink.. missing center caps, rusty backbox broken fogs, indicators.. tailgate plinth hanging as the rear lock was broken by thiefs who took gearknob and gaitor... and as for the tiny patch of rust... The whole leading edge and sill was rotten and boiled out in rust. needing a new door. The vendor then told us he had no log book.. and it was to be expected as it was old..(J reg) we went in the Rallye (G reg) needless to say we shot that one down.. he then said red is the worst colour its the age... I retorted that I own a B reg quattro that is like new in comparrison..
We were there 2 minutes. My friend who is a car trader and came along,
summed it up..." that ar%ehole needs one on the nose for wasting our time and everyone elses who no doubt will follow"

Mind you it proved to the GF, that I do have more sense than money..

Yea, it's a shame you can't post comments on the Pistonheads Classifieds, as there will no doubt be others who follow in our tracks simply because they dont read theses forums.

However, I can imagine why there is no mechanism for this on Pistonheads, as it would no doubt be abused
