I found out the other day that, the old bill can pull you over and issue a ticket or fine if using these plates as the D on the number plate refers to the vehicle being registered in germany not the UK, heard it from a traffic cop while over hearing a phone call
Is a good price but as mentioned the filth are having a bit of a money raising exercise on this at the moment "Got to have some bubbly for the shareholders meeting"

Got a ticket to change mine and present myself at the local MOT station to get it stamped and the main gripe was the font was german not english!

How about pressed plates without the "D"? much chance of getting noticed?
What's the point?
These thinks are illegal for good reason: the police use ANPR to catch criminals - driving whilst banned, driving without all the paper work, stolen car, written off car etc. Therefore anything which compromises the ability to read a plate (whether it be anti reflective spray, ridiculous italic fonts, moving the spacing to spell 'CHAV' or 'I AM A MUPPET' or using a German font is illegal and should be punished to the same degree as not having a number plate at all.
Just because the S2 was manufactured in Germany, does not mean we should use a German font. After all, you don't see Italian cars with the lettering made out of spaghetti, Ricer cars with plates in Japanese script or Yank cars with poor spelling on their number plates do you?
These and all other illegal plates simply draw attention to your car. I thought the whole point of an S2 was Audi build quality with stealth performance. If people want to draw attention to themselves then surely it is just cheaper to by a Corsa and put a drainpipe exhaust system on it.

they really don't have much to moan about do they? it's not like it's some silly italics font as favoured by the corsa driving fraternity.
I'm going to put a proper Polish plate on there and drive how i like n' park where I want.

Have you seen some of the "legal" plastic plates kicking about with the backs peeling and the dirt in the back of them, the numbers are totally illegible...
I never suggested that these be used on a public highway...
whassat then? an optical character recognition system type affair.. thing?
Didn't realise the systems couldn't read pressed plates. thought it was just the utterly silly fonts.
I'm off to fashion myself a knightrider style rotating number plate system. and turbo my wipers

Because I like the look, same reason I'm happy with my 'old fashioned' BBS wheels that look a lot smaller than 17" due to the split rim.
Others might not see the point, but each to their own...
As for ANPR - I've never had any trouble at the secure car park I use in Leeds that cross references your number plate with the ticket... Maybe because my spacing is to UK standard (my sig is a mockup!).
I'll take the risk and cross my fingers, for the sake of my car looking a little more unique.
We can discuss in more detail over a beer at Harewood, Si!

An MOT station cannot fail a car without a number plate by the way In this day and age a foreign car in this country is going too draw attention,it is best too just go with the pressed plates and have the GB instead of the D on the front in my opinion, You have to be honest your not fooling anyone with the german type plates really with the D denoting its origin.

There are 2 points here: -
1. All fonts other than the one and only font allowed in the UK (in two sizes for cars and the smaller bike version) are illegal as well as being 'utterly silly'....your words. That includes this German font. Any deviation from legal is illegal and it is simply irrelevant whether it is more or less legible than a Chav-favoured italic font, it is still illegal...period.
2. The current police systems (there are at least 2 different systems in use that I have seen in the SE) vary in the method of recognition and also the way in which they interpolate obscured characters. They all use a type of OCR for the first pass recognition to determine which part of the car is a number plate, rather than a make or model script etc. Once they have extracted the plate, they partition it up and read the characters individually.
The better ones, such as the Appian Talon system use the known legal plate formats, such as A123 ABC or AB05 ABC and 'neural processing' to estimate the full plate if obscured. They also repeat the process on every frame of video in which they can extract a plate from and compare the results, again to get the best chance of a clear and accurate recognition score.
In this way, the system knows whether the partially obscured (because of the viewing angle or a tow ball or dirt etc) should be a letter or a number and can therefore determine that it is a G and not an 0 (zero) hence the reason for only allowing a single font. The less letters and numbers that the system has to determine, the more accurate it can be.
End of the day, use a silly plate, get a fine. Want to be left alone, drive a sleeper with standard plates

I was pulled over by an unmarked Subara last Sunday to check my tyre tread depth. They commented on my pressed plates, but I have UK font and UK spacing. They told me that the reason for avoiding pressed plates (still with UK font and spacing) is because the system they use to catch criminals (I guess the APNR thingy) won't work due to the backing of pressed plates not being reflective, so if it gets stolen there's less chance of it being recovered. Not being reflective will not stop speed cameras from being effective.
