Is it just a case of going over every hose till a split is found, or is there more to it? apologies for the newbie questions, but if i do buy this i`ll need to drive it to the ferry at stranraer, so im asking the right questions to make sure it will make it!! lol
I drove mine with a boost leak no problem, you can buy a kit to check it from andy_p on here and tbh its pretty much what you said just checking for leaks. Normally the intercooler one aka mark h mod if that has not been done.

      @Ryan -

Hahah - looks like you are also on the wrong island, but not put off... I'm near Larne if you go for this Avant and need some help finding the boost leak. The price is a belter. Such a lot of car on the face of things there for little money.

the problem here is getting people to belive you are genuine, the reason I so desparately want this car to go to some one who will love it and use it properly is I have known this car since 1994, when a chap called lester owen, who used to build chevron race cars under licence bought it he , when I used to go there to get bits of race bike welded, a yamaha 400 rrsp, that my brother and I fitted a 600 motor to, if anyone is interested.
anyway I used to love the understated look of the car, then another friend of mine bought it from lester in 96 he paid 21k for it , his wife then used it to commute to work and drop of the kids whilst ian went to work in his van, this probably explains why it is still on the original clutch and still good .they owned it for the next 12 years.then I bought it , I have spent in excess of £1500 pounds on it in the last year, and the reason for sale is the impending emigration of myself and gf.
It just needs to be seen to realise I am not hiding anything and the car is probably the equal of many on this board.

Do you think that the car would drive up to Leeds ok? I know you state that it was in daily use until the beginning of February, but I assume these were local trips.
I also realise that Acidburn drove his with a boost leak for a while with no problem.

Can you give some indication of how the boost leak exhibits itself and affects driving the vehicle.

The car definitely sounds like a bargain irrespective of the problems but would I be better organising a trailer if I came down to see the car?

            Cheers

              teknobod,
You won,t need a trailer, the car was showing 138k when I bought it last year, now it is showing 152k so thats not just local journeys, still got a months tax on it and legal to drive so drive it home .

                Ok mate.

Let me try and get some cash organised, and I'll see if I can get down over the weekend if that is convenient.

Can you PM me a contact number so I can let you know either way.

                Cheers

                Andy

Well chaps it would seem that I've now joined the ranks of the slipper brigade!

What with wanting to keep the miles off the quattro this seemed perfect. And all credit to Alex, it was actually better than I expected and drives really rather well. I love it already!
It was nice to meet you too Alex.
