This scam has just been tried on me. Luckily I'm a little more savvy than this guy took me for, but, someone less savvy might get stung.
It seems to target car and bike enthusiasts and is quite convincing.
Here is how it works:
1. Car/bike/boat advertised on sites such as Autotrader, pistonheads, ebay, carandclassic etc at a cheap but "once in a lifetime" type price.
2. Email seller and ask for details, phonenumber etc.
3. Seller replies and states that he's deaf so must converse via email. Also states he'll deliver anywhere in UK and that he's had a family emergency hence price, delivery, need to sell etc.
It's all reasonaly convincing so far.
4. You recieve invoices, guarantees of trusted seller etc.
5. You pay and don't receive anything
OR
6. You continue to converse with him. Arangements are made to meet up. A group of men with bars/bats meet you and rob you blind.
I've attached a document to reinforce this warning.
