    S4 for sale

This isn't mine but I have been asked to put it on here for a friend.
This car is only for sale due to his commitments in urq refurbishment and he is gutted that the car has developed this problem. If you need any further info please pm quattrokid on here or pm me for his telephone number.
The s4 has a chipped rothell? engine doing about 270bhp and is in limp home mode due to what we believe is the failure of the rear crank seal. Seal has been odered. The car is automatic and has done over 200,000 miles, has FSH and is in really good condition. The car has been well looked after and he is looking for £1500 ono. Also he says that the car would need trailering untill the seal has been replaced and the ecu reset.

I have seen this car and is well worth £1500, no rust or marks anywhere on the bodywork and the interior looks as if it's hardly been sat in

In my 10 years of UrS-car ownership and being involved on the US Audifans S-cars forum, Audi World's Original S-cars forum and, for the past two years, this forum, I have never heard of a rear seal causing anything near "limp home mode". However, I have seen the little tube from the intake manifold to the ECU come loose at the moisture trap on the fire wall, under the black plastic connector cover/box, and cause problems. When that tube comes off, the engine only gets waste gate pressure boost, e.g. 6 psi (0.4 bar relative, 1.4 bar absolute(ish)). As a result, the engine looses about 60 hp of the stock hp. The cure is a 50p gear clamp.

The other common problem is the cross-over to intercooler hose (the "Michelin Man" hose) springs a leak due to oil rotting the rubber in the bottom of one or more of the corrugations in the hose. This leads to a massive boost leak, that does put the car into limp home mode. Easily fixed with a new hose.

If I was near by, I would buy the car in heartbeat, fix the likely very minor problems and sell it on, making a tidy profit from the new found horsepower.

Bottomline: I suggest a little more investigation will either prevent the need for the sale or a better price will be achieved and the car will be saved from the "donor car vultures"

Sorry lads. Its too nice to kill. As I said recently on AudiWorld, parting a running S-car for a minor problem, is like killing your dog for farting. Sure you can do it but does it make any sense?
