The ideal finish is a sort of satin finish, but inlet and exhaust ports need slightly different finishes.
    Inlet

    Exhaust

combustion chambers are another thing altogether: eg......

You want to put the near-mirror finish on the combustion chamber walls for two reasons: 1) As a deterrent to carbon build-up; and 2) to eliminate any sharp edges that can cause pre-ignition. The first thing to do is clean up the stems of your junk valves (Cross Buff or one of the surface conditioning discs will work well) then install the valves into the chamber you will be working on. They will protect those all-important valve seats as you polish the surrounding chamber surfaces.

The whole thing that was being said about this engine was that he was going on about this all singing all dancing head that hadn't been touched!!!!!

remember the 4 pot motors dont have the water jacket the same and no water rail.

it isn't needed either. to see what ports should look like check a 16v head from cncheads.co.uk

Maybe it has 900hp, yet instead of being horsepowers, they are traditional American horsies - almost like a horsepower, but a bit smaller...

Kinda like the island pony compared to a horse. By looking a mile away they look alike, but when You start to race with them, the difference gets pretty obvious.

dont you want as close to miror finnish as poss on everyhting except intake to flow, and the reasons dubmeister mentioned. the only reason you want a rougher surface on the intake is to stop fuel dropping out and condensing on the port walls. correct me if i'm wrong.

I haven't removed the guides yet and started into that area so thats got me wondering - is that pic from a 20V turbo head or some non-turbo 16V Golf application ?

Sorry couldn't find a quik pic of the 20vt on t'web so found a 16v stg 3 head(for comparison purposes like...)

As to guide boss removal- the more you take off the quicker the guide will wear- have seen race turbo heads with bosses removed, but on a road car all it would need is reshaping- unless you want to change the guides on a yearly basis- if they last that long!!!
Back when i was young, dumb and full of cum i did my golf 8v head with no boss and no guide in the port just a reshaped valve, the engine smoked after 4k miles and with a head strip and normal guides it lasted another 10k before they cried enough!!!

I looked at quite a few professionally ported VAG 4V heads before I ported my own. I was surprised to see quite a few with the guide boss and guide ground away to match the port.

i have different idea for 900hp
If you read the entire auction you will see that $15K is not just for the engine with 7A cams, you will get all what is listed on it (fully built engine, exhaust manifold, turbo, intake manifold, IC, Radiator, axles, transmission, etc...) this is full swap to CQ, there is an 3 full loaded pallets with parts, there is way more than $20k just in parts in there... Thanks

first time i ordered 3 sets 2.2 20vt pistons, you sent me 2 sets 20vt pistons and 1 set vr6 pistons. ok
second time,i ordered the same. you sent 5 pistons. 1 had no disch for compression, the other had no valve pocket.
that is why i say "not so good"
