You have to modify the handle by cutting off the part which is normally visible, and then adjust the bars which connect the handle to the catches so there is no play, ie. as soon as you move the handle it opens, rather than like normal where you can move the handle an amount before it actually releases the catches
show me show me!!!...my tailgate is being a real PITA at the moment..I have to give it a plenty of elbow grease to get it to open...

I may have someone for you...

      Show you what?!
If you mean adjusting the rods, then open the tailgate and remove the rear trim on it by carefully pulling it away.
Then its pretty straight forward, you can see the back of the handle and mechanism, and the rods which go to the catches.
Get someone to operate the handle and you will be able to see when the rods start to move, that is the slack you need to take up.
To do that, find the plastic adjuster that joins the 2 rods together.
Its abit trial and error, so before you start, put the back seats down! If you adjust it too far, it either wont catch properly when you shut it, or you wont be able to open it atall from the outside, if that happens climb in a back door, lean over the seat and pop it open from the inside.

So then, you have someone interested?

                  Hi Martyn,

Have you fitted the dash? Do you have any pics from underneath? Detailed pics... particularly of any corrosion

I like your car very much and thank you for sending the pics by email.

I've actually been a member on here for quite a long time...

If you can send underside pics to me at this address I'd be grateful...

                  Cheers

The only pics I have of the underneath are in my thread linked at the start of this one, which show the exhaust being fitted.
There is no rot, its an Audi lol

                      So you'd think.

But my Nothelle that went to New Zealand was full of it! British salty roads in winter I guess.

There's always gonna be some and mine was worse because of a bad body repair that I knew nothing about until the guys in New Zealand started the restoration.

I miss the car to bits and the new owner has sent me loads of pics of the car as she is being rebuilt.

I'd like another and just missed that low-miler from Glasgow...

I do love the colour of yours but I refuse to be seduced by that alone!

                      Cheers
