ABY 94 Laser Red Avant - Engine for sale

The decision to break my Avant now depends upon the sale of the engine.

It's an ABY, just gone past 92K (but in daily use) with service history. Cam belt recently rteplaced by QST. Boosts well, no smoke or nasty noises. Currently in the car so you can come and see / hear it running.

Sale includes all bolt on ancillary components (Turbo, downpipe, IM, EM) but does NOT include the air box, MAF, ECU, Wiring Loom, Intercooler, Rads etc.

    Looking for £950.

I will post a list of the remaining parts with prices once I have sold the engine.

Might be interested if you threw in the loom and ecu, but you can keep IM, EM and turbo as I would be upgrading these anyway.

To be honest given what these cars go for I think I would prefer to break it for parts...the car is sound (it's my daily driver and has been for the last couple of years) - it's just Laser Red (or pink) has rusty front wings and the exhaust will need replacing soon. If you search on the Southern meet last month it's the only Avant in the pictures....

@Mark - I hate to see these cars being broken for parts unless they really are past the point of repair. A few hundred quid should sort the wings and the right man with a day, some polishing gear and the right products would have it looking great. Maybe patch up the zorst and get it a fresh MOT - I guarantee it well fetch a fair price with the mileage you have and that its in good general condition.

You might get more money breaking it versus what you would get offered in its current condition - but do not underestimate the time and energy required to strip the car properly for parts - depends what time is 'worth' to you I suppose, but think about that for a while.

Red cars are brilliant for cleaning up, the wings you could possibly source from laseravant if he still has them and I think he has a standard exhaust still.

S2 Central - whilst I appreciate the sentiments (and agree) I am using the car as a daily driver returning 24 mpg on average. I seriously doubt the a couple of hundred will sort it (I have a pair of brand new wings in the garage and have been quoted double that to paint & fit).

The exhaust is original and is more a case of replacing than patching.

TBH - I have no interest to strip to a bare shell - rather I intend to sell a list of about 20 parts then scrap the rest. I have had his discussion with Ross and once you get past the S2 parts the rest are 'just' A80 (doors, tailgate, bonnet etc)

i would not scrap whats left of the car, its still worth money, people are always crying out for the rear bumper, trims all sorts of little bits. If you have a price in mind speak to sal he might be able to come to an agreement with you which saves you the hassle of stripping bits off and makes use of all the bits.

Guess thats where we differ then... Personally I would keep the S2 and invest some money into for occasional use - meantime buy a small/old runabout for the daily treks to save some money.

Stripping 20 valuable components then scrapping the shell is just outrageous IMO... A lot of those parts that are 'just' Audi 80 are going be very valuable when they become NLA (and they will).

Rather than scrapping a perfectly good shell - at least offer it up here to someone who may have the space/desire/gumption to do something with it - scrapping it should be a crime !!!

Would you kill your (otherwise healthy) old dog if the price of pedigree chum went up ?

                            Paul,

My intention was not to upset people on the forum.

I seriously doubt that I would break the 2K mark if I sold as a whole (BTW it passed it's MOT in Dec). I have priced up the cost to sort out (2.5K for glass out bottom half respray, circa 500 for a new exhaust, 300 to refurb the wheels) - thats over 3K the car without going near the suspension.

I guess that your reference to the dog food was my comment on fuel - this is my daily driver and not a pampered weekend car. If I was going to run a weekend car it would not be an avant... must say i regret selling my G60 which IMHO was much more fun to drive.

                            Mark.
