They don't adversely affect ride but handling is improved especially if your old bushes have perished or aged. There have been other threads about changing wishbone bushes and most notably recently form S2driveruk...have a quick search. I did mine on a very relaxed saturday morning. I was enjoying the weather and drinking too much tea but it didn't take that long. Assembly is quick and the hardest job is getting the old bushes out. I have heard of a few people that have changed them with the wishbone on the car but this requires a tool to extract the old bushes from th ewishbone. I drifted my old bushes out with a hammer in about 2 minutes taking care not to damage the wishbone itself. It's not rocket science but there are 5 main points as far as I'm concerned...
1. you need a deep offset ring spanner to access the retaining bolts which are inside the subframe..access is easy with teh car jacked up.
2. Poly bushes freely rotate so these are bushes that you can tighten without requiring the weight of the car on the wheels
3. Note the location of the camber plates on each side so that you don't screw the geometry during reassembly
4. Lubricate the components with some copper grease before assembly.
5. Refit using new bolts for the bush to subframe mountings and new nuts on the camber plates if you undo those. This is probably not essential but good practice for structural fasteners.
Its only 5 fasteners each side and its a doddle to do.

I think these kits retail at about £60 plus ostage from most vendors. Note that pressed and forged wishbones require a different bush size but I have both.

Forged ones gone. Pressed ones are still here although someone has experessed an interest. The fit Coupe and Avant Front, and possibly Coupe rears too. I will bring them to GTi if someone hasn't bought them by then. Must have the pressed wishbones for the smaller bush. The available pair is the latest generation with the black (hardest) material and the extra spiral groove on the pin to aid lubrication. Fnar fnar. These will improve ride and handling if your exisitng bushes are shot without adverse effects. The older, purple ones were softer and unable to take abuse.
