1ph to 3ph is easy - you need a motor inverter.
Depending upon the kw rating you need, but a 1kw inverter can be had off ebay for £50.
It basically takes the single phase and sprinkles some majic on it!
I use loads of them to control feed motors - very reliable.
Can you point me in the direction of the kind of thing i'd need to convert?
If that's the case then £400 + say £100 to sort out converting single to 3 phase sounds pretty good?
Compared to other prices this seems a fair chunk of cash - but a lot cheaper than previous lift costs that i've seen.
Do you think there would be any major problems with installation other than physical space once i got the power sorted out? (we are talking about a standard domestic garage here with i guess about 7-8 feet headroom - but with plasterboard ceiling).
ALtho have used a very good ebay shop before now also.
one thing to watch out for will be lifting the roof off your garage by letting the ramp go too high!
which is why i got one of these:
I think it is a very good prize for the lift. It may not be a top quality one but I don't think it is going to be used the same it would be in a professional garage, so I would buy it for sure!
I am searching to get one but here it is difficult to find something under 800GBP (second hand, of course). If I had the chance to get one like that I would do it. I am lucky that I have 380V three phase supply on my garage.
Ess2, tell us how it works if you finally buy it .
Cheers!

Not exactly true,
To run a 3ph motor from a inverter it has to be a dual voltage motor ie, both 415v and 230v.
If the motor is a 3ph single voltage ie, 415v then you will need a converter to run it which will cost about three times the price of the 2 post lift.
I have just been looking at that link and if you click on the photo of the lift it says the lift itself is £600+vat and the delivery is £350+vat then if you want it installed its another £250+vat
