So what would be a realistic value of it stripped? Is it enough to see me get it on the ramps?
Is it enough to drown the guilt I'd feel about breaking it?
no it ain't! Please stop breaking nice cars out there, I wouldn't even consider selling great cars for such a silly amount of money. Cars like that are very very hard to find over here and if one comes up for sale it costs 6K euro's at least, same for the coupe's though.
My sentiments exactly, if it was a couple of hundred quid difference then I wouldn't even think about it, but if it's double then......who knows.
The cars are massively undervalued at the moment, but obviously, they only fetch what someone is willing to pay.
The market is a bit limited because of the uninitiated buyers out there, that's the price we pay for being a little more subtle than the average BMW or dare I say it newer Audi drivers, but the nod you get from the more discerning driver can be priceless!
I will certainly have another, without doubt, but a 100 mile round trip to work, a 20 month old and another due in August means this one's not getting the attention it deserves and needs to go to someone who can enjoy it as much as I have.
So don't break then?
Who wants first dibs on the carbon...................
This is not a rant, but I can't understand the "it's not getting used"... mine isn't either at the mo but I fought tooth and nail to get her back and running! As soon as it's MOT'd it's gonna be my toy. If I don't have time to play once in while, something is wrong in my life...
Seriously though most will say sell it, and you'll get annihalated for suggesting breaking a good working order Avant. If you're happy to let it go to someone who can use it then that'd be the best outcome. But at the end of the day it's a car, and you have to do what is best for you. Honestly - you'd make more breaking it. But there is of course, the work involved and time dealing with sales etc that will make you earn that extra.
As for £1500 engine, the ECU, loom etc adds some value and the mileage is relatively low. It's one of those supply/demand things, if someone really wants it then they'll pay...
There are two engine conversions on EBay that are not selling and they are less than £1500.
In this climate there are no set prices. It's a buyers paradise.

Dont do it, you'll regret it. I used mine with a toddler and we both used to go out in it and he loved it! My advice if you are not forced financially to sell it would be get a good charger to keep the battery healthy, take your time doing any jobs that it requires, they all have them and drive it.
Will need to be creative to knit it back into daily life but you can do it and the value of the fun you do get when you sneak out for a blat once the kids have been put to bed etc is priceless
Just waiting for my second child to get into her next stage car seat then it will used an awful lot more as a family car.
breaking cars that are in perfectly good condition can be looked at 2 ways
yes dont do it cause it "sacrafice" or whatever else people call it
but also if people didnt break these rarer cars how would all us be able to keep them on the road?
if someone is breaking a perfectly good car then all the people who buy bits from that person get perfectly good parts
if some one breaks a shed that if fit for breaking then maybe only 1/4 of the parts are gonna help anyone
ok i need a 3b engine for my type 85 90 quattro project along with loom and all accilaries etc
do i a
pay 1500 ish for another engine and still need to trackdown all the other parts needed
or do i break my 2600 quid coupe and sell the great condition leather , the porsche break kit the fully refurbished like new elipsoids the 8x17 genuine a8 wheels etc etc
not meanig to hijack or anything
