    WTD: HP2 Struts

Carrying out a conversion on URS4 Avant from UFO to HP2 struts to utilise RS2 front calipers. Anyone got a decent set?

Can anyone recommend a good source for brackets?

I have a pair of struts that I've just taken off a 1995 S6. They're in good condition although I won't have any photos until next weekend.

No idea what they're worth - anyone?

Why do you need HP2 struts to use RS2 calipers?? You'll need custom brackets whether you use UFO or HP2 struts so you might as well stick with what you've got imo.

Everyone I speak to says avid this course like the plague - I would rather keep my original struts - but need to find someone who can make the brackets - anyone please?

A good machine shop should be able to help with the brackets. I don't see any reason to avoid using your original struts. Custom is custom! If it's got to be built from scratch either way then why go to the extra hassle and expense of changing the struts?

What discs are you planning to use?

I was advised by Tim - formerly of QST to use the UFO strut, the RS2 caliper and a 1995 S6 323m rotor - if I can find the bracket - it will be a no brainer theoretically but I have been warned by members of the headaches associated with utilising the UFO strut - I would rather keep what I have really......

i have just bought some 1996 discs and calipers the other day, and looking at it the other day looks well easy to equip, the ufo strut has three mounting points so all you have to do to fit the hp2 s6 caliper, is get rid of the top lug on the strut so you are left with two, then the two you have left will accept the hp2 caliper, you just then tap them to m14 size on the strut and they go straight on, even better news for me to,and thats that they all still fit under my 16inch fuch rims so no hasle of changing my stuts, which suits me fine , and my point being to this, is that if the hp2 caliper goes on the strut when you do this , then any brake upgrade you would do too a hp2 strut will now fit a ufo strut , so why buy hp2 stuts

The only real problem with the ufo setup is that the hub is larger than later setups. Therefore you may have machine it down depending on which disc you want to use. For example, the 314mm disc from the HP2 setup doesn't fit over the ufo hub. There is a forum member who has used a grinder to reduce the hub size while it was still on the car but I think I'd prefer to ask a machine shop to do it properly!!

yes your right there, and might have to on my discs, but they are 323mm ones so might not have to but even if i do , its not a major prob
