Not quite sure what benefit the 3 door Cosworth style vents give!?

This is my mate Andy's old car. This was a bit of a beast a when he owned it. Rare without the roof rails over here. Shame to see it like that. The vents did make quite a difference when we did them. Ive got a vid of it at pod somewhere ill try and dig it out

Its an L.
Ive only got 1 other L on the register with no rails, the others are all K (and there's 2 of those!)
Hard to tell from the pics, but could be non elipsoid lights too
