H Beam Rods

Hi guys,

I have had to order a full new set of rods from Aron as he doesn't currently have a single in the weight I need and it will take a few weeks to get.

So I have for sale a set of 4 suitable for a 1.8T I hear. They have done ~200 miles. My number 1 shells spun and so the rod I am throwing away.

A set of 5 is currently 390 Euro to the UK. A single is 80 Euro so if you want a full set and not in a hurry you could get Aron to get you a single and save a few quid.

Say £200 for the 4?

sorry for the off topic but when did this happen mate? your new engine or an old one?

The one I rebuilt after the timing belt slipped. I think it was a change to fully synthetic oil issue

sorry for the OT, but why did the bearing spin? Not enough crush or another issue?

It didn't really spin as such, or at least that was not the cause, it basically was non existent when I took the rod out. The Crank and rod are badly scored on number 1 only, similar to Ross's issue after a rebuild. I have gone with the conclusion that it was moving to fully synth...

Dunno about the oil theory.

Cold / boiled or dirty oil yes, but more likely Insufficient clearances or over torqued and crushed the bearing.

Yeh got to be one of those tbh.

What bearings did you use ? How well does the rest of the crank measure up ?

Yes the bearing is softer than the rod and the crank journals your pretty lucky it wore rather than fused together and then well a bearing welded to the crank and connecting rod is not pretty

Yes, you must always measure the clearence with these china-H-rods. There can be some problems with the tolerances here and then... A friend of my destroyd his engine in the same way.

Had a similar fault with a friends engine, turned out the crank needed a grind and should of had that done before the rods were fitted, he learnt the hard way !

Actually, no I didnt measure the clearances.

The Shells were OE audi with hardened on top shell.

Theses are not cheap rods from china, they are well tested ones form Aronmatic2...

Hmm, i think almost all these cheap rods like Scat, Eagle, SPM etc. are made in China.

Always check the clearances with plastigage! Even on a carillo or so. Its a simple en cheap check.
