The G40 sensor on ABY/AAN/ADU engines can be troublesome as it often fails intermittently and without it the engine will not start. Replacement from Audi is expensive – around £150 – part number 034 905 161 but you can replace just the electronic unit as per this post:

Electronic Hall Switch sensor HME301 from the supplier in the USA as in the left of the photo, £20 including postage.
Just to be clear, it’s the sensor that’s for sale, you will have to mount it on your bracket but it comes with rivets supplied and is well worth having on the shelf for if and when you’ll need it in the future
