    swap 10v.. for 20v or s2... which ever comes 1st wanted engine ancilliaries..help !!

i am in the process of buying a 10v coupe quattro..with a knakkered engine.. not had a look yet.....my last one it was just a vaccum hose.. audi told vendor new engine..cost me a quid...... but shes blown up in spain 5yrs later and had to abandon her ...sob..

i am rummaging around for either a 7a 20v or if luck and funds arrive an s2 conversion

but i am looking for an engine if anyone can suggest where to look or has one..

also what are the pit falls from a 10v to s2...or would the 7a be the easiest option and cheapest in part changes etc... im sure you know what i mean...
    thanks

i'd skip the 7a as you'd only end up a few years later going for an s2 engine plus 20v's are getting a bit scarce on the ground now. Where abouts in herts are you? I used to live in baldock and still go back there quite often.

An s2 engine will go into your 10v, you'd need to use the 10v flywheel with a different clutch on it on your engine (sell the original s2 flywheel on to recoup some cash)
your front bumper won't house a s2 intercooler but you could get something different sorted
you'd need engine, loom, ecu plus associated extras, and have to mod the downpipe at the base as your car only has a single system and a s2 it splits at the bottom of the downpipe for the cats but thats an easy job before it goes in.
brakes will need upgrading to handle and if funds can work its worthwhile uprating suspensions at the least front shocks/springs to cope.

Have a look at another members thread RE2500 as he did 10v to s2 conversion a couple of years ago and is a helpful person so should know answers to questions.

thanks fella... ye baldock is just up the road... im in sg1.

i appreciate your comments....... might be cheaper to buy a proper s2...

ye the 7a s are getting scarce... i had to leave one in spain (shes still there sob) blew the gasket ..arguing with a cupra turbo...
i had by-passed the little rad.. an it was 40 degs plus......oh well..
theres a 7a on flea bay ..but iam waiting for a reply...
the 10v is not in my hands yet ...its still in negotiation, so i have not had a chance to look at it properly....the last one i bought spares or repair, it was supposed to be a new engine jobbie, turned out to be the vac hose at the rear was blokked and a few vaccum hoses perished and the metering head squeeze box split... bit a super glue a glass cleaning brush..and a £1 on vac hose...........5 years of sweet running...trouble free.. for £80...

i doubt i will be that lucky again.... but....it is an audi after all..

ive had them for the last 20 odd years i cant have anything else..... ur x3 ..20v x2..and worked on loads ...even had a t5 cus it was a 5 cyl...but nah...

yet to have an s2....but im working on it...
        thanks for advice tho..

S2 swap is fairly easy. 3B im told is the easiest with least wiring. AAN is the hardest because of the wiring but an ABY loom will sort that out. I swapped an ABY engine and loom into my typ85 audi 90Q and didnt find it too tasking. Tonks4x4 is the man for 20vt swapping.

You need a quattro for the 20V turbz if you want to keep it from spinning it's shins off...
