I have spoken with 4 of my suppliers at work, all Hella dealers and none of them can get hold of the RHD units.
I suspect either they are dealer only parts or more likely they don't make them anymore

Do you have a part number and I'll see what I can do... I have a contact at Hella as I've been buying loads of MK2 Golf items...

I believe these are the Hella numbers for RHD elipsoids

Left - 1AL 007 140-071
Right - 1AL 007 140-081

Maybe someone has a set to hand to double check?

Well I'm confused

I have a spare set of ellipsoids just in case......and they do not have any Hella part numbers on them other than those of the individual pieces that make up the overall headlight. Went to the S2 and same case: I have a feeling that it was on a sticky label that has long since worn off the top of the headlight unit

All the search engines I have been on confirm the Hella numbers quoted by Alex above as being ellipsoids for the ABY / RS2 but they say "for right-hand traffic", which to me means left-hand drive unless i am being daft

When you go to the family album, the headlamp lens is the same for LHD and RHD cars, which i thought would be different. The housing is also the same.

Perhaps as a process of elimination, one of you guys who got the LHD headlights could confirm the Hella part numbers?

The online catalogues in English and German only seem to have the headlight lenses, which are common to LHD and RHD cars and are: -

9ES 138 835-031 (left) and
9ES 138 836-031 (right)

There's supposed to be some switch to flip to make the cut-off specific for left-side or right-side driving, IIRC... maybe someone else knows more.
