of course the coil is just one problem, then you have the exhaust, the intercooler, the intake piping, injectors and so on, but if you need help for that, I can do it for you, I'm also doing consulting from now on
Regarding the coil, look after capacitive discharge coils from Crane for instance.

Habib, nope, I meant just the coil. I have now proof the 3B coil can do close to 400 HP and a capacitive discharge one should be no problem for 450+ HP, Dahlbäck's black sport quattro makes close to 600HP on the stock SQ ignition system.

I'll try to find it out for you, and except for the room issue (you'll have to find some place under the bonnet to fit it), they are a "plug 'n' play" replacement of the original one!
Cheers

Doug,
I believe I am in right in saying that the K27 hot side will not fit your RS2 EM.
The collector outlet (flange) on your RS2 EM is 50mm diameter and the hot side on the K27 is (I think) 60mm. The K27 turbo hot side is designed to fit the audi SQ EM which has a larger flange.
This is something that you will have to bare in mind when going for a bigger turbo to fit your EM. It IS possible to get a big turbo (hot side) to fit your EM, but you will have to hybridize the turbo and hot side housing to fit.
To illustrate:I have an MTM SQ (S1) EM, these usually come with the larger SQ size outlet, but MTM also machine them with the smaller 50mm outlet to take the K26/27 that they use as part of their tuning options, I have the smaller outlet variant. My turbo is basically a Turbonetics/Garrett T3/T4 unit fitted to a copy of the KKK #8 hot side housing, but this has been modified to take the Turbonetics stage three turbine, 63mm, roughly about the same size as the SQ turbine.
Sorry if I've made things a bit confusing but its best not to make expensive mistakes.
Cheers, Mark.
PS if you are going to go for a big turbo get one with the ceramic ball bearing option if you can, I might get shot down for saying this, but they definately cut down the lag.

A company called CRANE can supply a suitable replacement coil for the 3B engine which will provide enough energy for decent sparks above 1.5bar boost.
You do NOT need to go for a MOTEC system - its a wonderful system in my view but only for those with a very deep wallet. The Motronic system can be reprogrammed quite happily to work with any turbo upgrade.
Paul, Steve H is now running 1.75 Bar on his stock coil and it works wonders, I think my previously stated 330bhp limit for a 3B ignition coil isn't true and we'll have to find out for sure soon! The boost levels he's running are producing 500 Nm and 365 HP in an RS2, and I sure am curious about how much he makes and where's the difference, if any....
Cheers,
Mihnea

Guys...FWIW...I've been informed that the S2 hillclimber (the one with all the carbon fibre from FibreLite - Simon's car?) is pushing out over 500bhp on the standard 3B ignition system. I can't confirm this for sure as I don't know the bloke, however, someone on this list may know him and be able to contact him for confirmation.
One thing for sure is the 3B coil can cope with lots of boost if the maps are sorted correctly.
