The deal was done of ebay but the seller drove the car to me and i drove him back to hampshire. When i inspected it before he delivered, it was a hot day and the windows were down for the test drive so although i could smell faint exhaust fumes didn't unduly worry.Trouble was the seller failed to mention the suffocating exhaust fumes and that in order to drive the car all windows had to be lowered because of the terrible exhaust fumes.I intended to use it for at least a year and then see as i wanted to own one. When i removed the exhaust manifold bag of snakes there lay the exhaust fumes problem. Some of the nuts had worked loose allowing fumes to escape into the cabin. You really couldn't breath without the windows down.
These are old cars now and mechanically are bomb proof and of much higher quality and built to last than todays audis are. Water pumps and tensioners dont last any near as long on todays audis as they did on this vintage! Anyway i costed up a new exhaust from audi as it needed one really (i don't like after market exhausts) and bits and bobs a new cambelt and service etc ect oh and new tyres and we were talking at least £1,500 + so not worth it. I decided to find an S6 and put that sort of money into it as it would be worth it.
I was a little gutted really but the exhaust fumes would have probably killed my very young son so it had to go.It was stripped much quicker and gone from the drive than it would have taken trying to sell it which would have been difficult given what was needed. It helped fund my S6 estate,so although it died it helped fund the S6 to keep another alive!
superb parts from this car.The engine bay still had some of the factory applied protection wax visible and very hard it was to clean of.Remember it was owned by a disable driver for 10 years and not some boy racer!!Surely someone needs parts before this goes onto ebay and potentially get sold to the Scandanavians,Germans etc.
I didn't know that.I just thought they were all the same.
I can see most of my parts will go on ebay as probably a much better audiance there. That's not to denegrate the forum, but let's face it if it were all S2 stuff i was selling then no problem.
