    Air con compressor FS

For sale. Removed from car as I didn't fancy the mass and don't need aircon function as I normally roll down the window!

Was in good working order when removed from the car. Fitted to MY1995 s2 avant. More details on request so PM or post here if you need to know any more.

£95 ono plus shipping. It is quite heavy so it would go by courier so around £15 (guess) for UK delivery. I can get a better quote than this once I have weighed it!

Some other aircon parts available too but I am keeping the condenser for now.

Will consider any sensible offers if there is no interest. I guess I should be advertising this in the summer when people start using their aircon a bit more.

      Plans for an air/water intercooler?

No. I need to get some castings done for a reversed IM but it needs a lot of financial investment to get the fantastic quality others lack which I can't justify at the moment (£5k tooling but recurring price is low). I need the condenser to do fit checks and make sure that the IM clears everything for all models: air con, PS pump, dizzy, blah blah and still have room for the ISV, cruise etc. How are you going to do an air/water intercooler with the condenser? I did think about reversing the air con so that it chilled the air before it went into the intercooler but CO2 is much easier.

Actually, I was thinking about using the stock A/C condenser for a water radiator for use with an air/water heat exchanger. Of course this would depend upon its suitability to handle coolant. For the charge air cooler I had in mind to use the unit off of a MercedesBenz SL65 or CL65. They have one for each bank of cylinders (V12)! My thinking is that the '65 is a 6 liter biturbocharged engine and that one would be big enough to handle a 5-cylinder. Maybe, maybe not. In turn, I could use the stock intake from an ABY? with the side mounted throttle body, and the radiator and a/c condenser from the V6. Wthout the front mounted air cooled IC the plumbing from the turbocharger could be shorter. Also, I could incorperate an additional "ice chest" in the system to get the intake charge even cooler for special occaisons. I am convinced that the air/water heat exchanger can deliver a more consistent and cooler charge air temp. I am not an engineer and so there may be issues with the sizeing of the various components, however, why reinvent the wheel.
          My two cents,
          Chris

That is sound thinking but maybe more complex than sticking in a large IC. Then again, the aircon rad stays where it is so all you need is a pump an expansion tank and a good heat exchanger...should work. So the Big V12 biturbo is water-air as opposed to air-air charge cooling??

Doug, Tom and others have monster intercoolers that cost next to nothing. They are quite compact and relatively simple to install so quite a proven technology if you are going for big power.

Corrrect! They are a little smaller on the standard bi-turbo engines in the CL600 & SL600. The intercooler system has a variable speed electrical water pump, seperate radiator & coolant supply & uses an air/water heat exchanger for each bank of cylinders.
I do not dispute that the large air/air coolers are less expensive but again, the air/water can give a more consistent charge temp & can offer more performance potential.

Too true. Here in Kentucky the weather ranges from +40 C to -17 C. During the summer months the humidity can make it feel even hotter. Really more like a sauna during the summer months. If I was living in a more northern climate where the weather was less temperate I would opt for a less complicated air/air IC.

Chris that explains everything! Didn't notice where you were from. Water-air is likely a good option!

There seems to be a bit of a queue! Someone else wants the part number so if he doesn't want it then it will still be available.
