Have not pulled the heat shield off but I will shortly. At first glance it did not look like a bag of snakes. Maybe because all the ones I have seen look rustic...
I am keeping the long block for mock up purposes. Prefer using new components when designing hardware.
What is so special about the crankshaft aside from it being new? If you want I do have used crankshafts I could send over , just pay the shipping.Comment

The manifold shield is definitely for a bag'o'snakes, the later cast affair is very different -this is the earlier engine, you can see this quite easily from the ISV arrangement.
When the bag'o'snakes were last available from audi, they were of the order of £900....

oh I know how eye gorging Audi can be.
I was looking to get $500 ONO for the exhaust & shields.Comment

Super nice find there.
Its definitely a Bag of snakes header!
Beautiful bit of sculpture there Wizard-of-od.

You can't afford it bud at least your always telling me you can't.
It would be nice though i have to agree i wouldn't mind just to admire it! Then again i am biased having a complete engine with low 68,000 miles genuine miles.
This is nice too below.
I watched the above bottom end go recently for the unbelievably low sum of £199.62 on open auction.
So bargains to be found it seams

2.8 V6 30V.
Those were going at the last fire sale for under $400 USD for a complete bottom end. Not worth much unless the heads are involved.
This one came from CA so possibly. INA (my company) is one of the 4 companies in the Western Hemisphere that have access to the fire sale items before they go to market. I have been looking for a 3B crate motor since before I got the S2 and this as close as I am going to get to getting a new oil pan.
It was either pay the dealer $1400+ for an oil pan or buy this for $3900 and sell off what I don't need. I need a new oil pan for design purposes as used items sometimes are difficult to pull dimensions off of (mounting holes being oval etc).
SOLD:

PENDING:

Nice nice, what a find. Can we expect more pictures in your build thread in time? Head, block and internals would be great to see factory fresh
