Says the cam belt has been done, however it is advertised elsewear. Is there a small Scottish village called elsewear?

        Wish I didn't fancy it!

It's a Cat D insurance write off. Looks like Year 2000 accident. and has been stored for the last 5 years. Would hate to think what that's done to the engine......

Cat D means nothing on a S2, insurance companies write of S2 for front light breaking!

The storage for 5 years again not really a problem.

But it's too high a price with those two thing in mind.

              Right, fair enough.

Doesn't an engine standing for 5 years mean that gaskets, seals etc. which are supposed to remain lubricated are exposed to the air and dry out? I don't know if that's the case on the s2 but I've got a Westfield with a Rover V8 which wouldn't take too kindly to being left for even a year.

Depending on what the damage was that could be a real bargain really

That would mean when you park your car up it would seize. Not on most modern engines.

I had a car that i stored for 5 years, came back and it started first time and ran perfectly for 18 months afterwards. Only problem i had was the Rad had become rotten which would be the only concern on the S2 as it has 2 of the ******s.

When I say they dry out - I mean over a period of months and years, not whilst you pop into Tescos for a loaf of bread

If the Rover V8 has the old 'rope' oil seal it will not take too kindly to being dried out. I have a Morris Minor Engine which was left for 18 years with no oil in it whatsoever! I put the sump back on, filled it with oil and it ran for 3k miles before It sounded a bit rumbly. It turns out that the crank had rusted inside the shells and it took the bearings out. I had the crank polished to inner tolerance and fitted new shells and it is fine again.

I know it's not an ideal example of leaving engines standing but it's the best I can provide.

If your shopping for a new woman, it could be a couple of years :mischeif:

Actually, probably best not to even leave it in Tesco's carpark at all. Those old ladies with fully laden trolleys are pretty scary, although I have noticed some of them employing advanced RWD driving techniques for cornering. Pity they can't brake quite as well
