Wow! I still can't get over how good that car is.
That black mesh looks so much better. Are you going to sort out the bonnet vents?
stu i think you need to upgrade your glasses if you look carefully the bonnet has black mesh fitted @ deano whats one of them ? i think its going to be a long day tomorrow .
got the regulator i hope the rack is ok and its just the pipe that needs tightening
took the shorty out for a spin yesterday thanks to sal manage to bleed the brakes .power steering hasen't leeked again .
on the negative side the turbo seals may have hardened due to turbo being lying around for 3 years ,so it was taken out today so it can be sorted any recomendations as to someone trustworthy where i can take it to to have new seals put in ?
Turbo seals are effectively piston rings. There are no other seals as such if you get my meaning. Perhaps whatever problem you have lies elsewhere!
Just a thought before start paying out!
i was speaking to tim from qrs the other day and he was saying that he has had this problem before ,where the rings tend to stick and you have to open the front of the turbo and free it does this make sense ? my car has been smoking and when i took the inlet pipe off the turbo there was oil there .
seems as if its seeping through the seals .it was a brand new turbo and its the first time that the car has been driven
It's a bit odd that they have decided to stick now. You have run the engine before so at least it would have had the lube up there. Not saying they can't stick but I doubt whether they can harden much more being the material they are!
What else is teed into the inlet pipe? Anything that the vac can pull oil in from?
nothing else i have a catch tank and two recirculating valves but they look clean .
if it were the piston rings then surely i wouldn't have oil in turbo entry?

Sorry, I haven't explained this too well!
What I was trying to explain is that the turbo doesen't have a viton/neoprene seal. The turbo uses a piston ring like seal on both the turbine and compressor end to stop oil ingress into either end. So its a mechanical seal. I'll try and find an exploded diagram.
Usually KKK usually have two in the comp and turbine. The ring is sized to fit the housing and the shaft revolves inside the ring.

i understand what you are saying .can those rings seize up with time if left and not used ? because the oil is in the entry of the turbo i have a feeling its to do with those seals
well the problem is sorted thanks to a helpfull chap from turbo dynamics
when i made the oil pipes for shorty the return pipe had slight loop in it and because oil relies on gravity to get back to the engine it was staying in the loop and backing up into the turbo where it was burning .
got a new pipe made and it seems to have sorted the problem.
started the car today and it idled really well without any smoke
