    Autocross Buggy Project

    Hi people,
like everyone here in this section of the forum, i would like to present to you my non-Audi Project of an Autocross Buggy! It is a low budget Project! Everything is chosen under this perspective! Reliable and low budget! In fact it is a mix of many cars!

It has an Rohrrahmen (Roll -type frame, i dont know how its called in english) one seat and the Engine is mounted in the middle of the car! The Gearbox is a Frontwheel drive gearbox placed on the back of the engine!

For the motor i have choosen the Opel-Vauxhaul C20XE Engine, 2 liters and about 150 BHP! I have choosen this engine because it is reliable, and easy to find spare parts! On the buggy it will be used without cat and with a free flowing exhaust witch i hope it will give some more power! I am also going to change the induction a little in order to make it breath a little better (the stock SFI-Box is very restrictive). It has got a separate runner exhaust manifold from the factory! The Engine runs on a Motronic 2.5.

The gearbox is an Audi 80 1.8 liter FWD gearbox! I choose this one because it is almost unbreakable. It is in fact heavy but it can take some abuse! I am trying to locate a Torsen like diff for it and how to make it have a closer ratio!

The front Suspension is with double scissors (thats is how we call it-maybe wishbones?) and some Jeep Dampers rebuilt in order to install springs on them!

The back suspension is the front suspension and brakes of a Golf 2!

The steering, pedals and other stuff are coming from a Fiat.

Here aresome Pictures of it (sorry, bad quality):

It is going to look like this! It is an identical of the guy who built my chassis-cage-frame. I am going to have the same Suspension system and same engine and gearbox! Me and he are only going to change the nose now beause it is a bit ugly!
Think also i am going to make mine in Yellow-Black!

The frame in front is mine.

Right now we have to paint it, make the Glassfiber parts, the electrical stuff and some other minor things.
The suspention, engine and gearbox mounting, brakes and brake lines, steering and pedals and all the other stuff is done! I simply dont have pictures of this stages!

Hope that till May i will finish it! I am out of money right now so i delay it a little!

I have driven his (like said the same spec as mine) and it is very nice ballanced due to the Engine and gearbox mounting and very fast! Weights about 600-650kg. hope that the engine with these small changes will give about 160-165 BHP.

Looking good. The Opel C20XE / C22XE engines are far more superior to the VW 2.0 16V, excellent head porting as standard. Not difficult to extract 200 PS from even the C20XE. Best one to go for (if you can find one) is the early 2.0 16V from the original Opel Kadett 2.0 16V GTE. I would avoid the later Ecotec engines, these make less power and cylinder head gasket failures are common.

Yes, mine engine is a C20XE from a Vectra early years! It is no ecotec! I think there was a bunch of them having problem with cylinderhead cracks between oil and water lines!

I think i can go close to 200 bhp but for this i need a pair of camshafts and a ECU tuning witch right now is difficult!

Hate to admit on this forum - but YES that 2l 16V opel engine is a good 'un... 100bhp per liter easily achieved without silly money - about as much as you can expect without a turbo on any engine unless you get into exotic cams and such which will not provide useful torque in the low-mid range required of a road car. Sure looks fun... I need more money - and time - and space

Here's an idea - seeing as the Audi gearbox bolts onto that Opel engine.

Take one Opel Manta GTE with that 2.0l 16V engine and convert it with quattro transmission - for a laugh - and the 'quanta' is born !

Great project, looks a lot of fun. I had one of those Vauxhaul C20XE Engines and it was as hard as nails. Good choice
