    VAGparts to the rescue

Need to replace a breather hose as well, and Audi will rape me for it, so may as well wait on both. Dont' wanna use the old bolts, have 4 new S2 bolts + 9 RS2. So the plan is to leave the 3 most accessable bolts and fit first thing next week when they arrive...

Aparrently, my engine is fully rebuilt and ready to fit fingers crossed the beast could be on the prowl a week from now

        THE BEAST IS BACK!!

Yeah Robo, it should look familiar

Well I picked up the car this evening, with 10 miles on the trip-ometer since the rebuild. Now, she's up to 110, 890 to go...

        First impressions:

The engine was drinking fuel and the clutch a bit juddery, but the handbrake works now The car felt hard to drive after 5 weeks!

After 50 miles: 70mph over 5 miles ont eh flat, 33mpg sustained Bring on the RS2 turbo and we'll soon fix that! The clutch feels alot better, a bit heavier than stock I think but then I've been driving a Golf with a feather-weight clutch for 5 weeks!

After 100 miles: I was naughty and hit 3200rpm for a few seconds. I soo want to get the engine broken in! I can't believe how smooth it is, quiet, and did I say smooooth?!! If you're rebuilding, GET YOUR ENGINE BALANCED - I've taken a few people out (family BBQ tonight) for a quick few miles and it's been repeatedly mentioned that "the car feels really smooth, like a new car"

Pictures and a vids to follow... christmas came early this year

I will be coming round in EXACTLY 890 miles

I am sure it is going to make me think twice about my nearly stock S2....

740 miles to go... I promise I'll get a few pics, not much bling compared to some of the other car porn - and I don't think a video would be so exciting yet

@Raj - Yeah, Tom mentioned you can get away with some of the S2 bolts - but we weren't prepared to use old bolts and had to wait anyway... they're only 50p each so may as well get RS2 items all round while you're fitting it!

@John - I did use OEM all round, with exception to the rods of course. Thinking back I should have fitted ARP head bolts but I already had a set of OEMs ordered, and I'm not gonna be pushing silly power so I'd image they will be fine. I mean if they fit them to the RS2...

@Martin - I had to go for oversize pistons, .5mm rebore I think, re-hone and 5 of Germany's finest. There was a good bit of wear at the top of the stroke. That blew my budget big-stlye, and remap will have to wait, but I think it was worthwhile.

@Greg - Hit some M25 traffic for about 15 minutes going to Gatwick this morning, no dead leg, yeah it's a bit heavy but nothing like Tom's even though it's the same setup! Tom said it was 'feather weight' but wondered if there had been a change in the pressure plate on the more recent clutchnet kit (?) As for stop-start it's fine, you can feel it wanting to grab a little more but so far I'd say it's no less driveable round town than stock. Great for a high-performance clutch!

IMO ARP headbolts arent needed unless you plan on taking it apart all the time. I have run 475bhp for well over a year with no problems. And i am using stock bolts again, running 2.3bar boost. So far I have done about 1500 miles and no signs of problems

500 miles down, ready for an oil change. Engine sounds amazing, it's the same but smoother and with a bit more 'growl' - I can't quite figure why it's different. Maybe because I'm not giving enough to have the external WG pipe kick in?

                            Anyway, stage 2 & 3 of meguiar's (polish/wax) and a good vac + later...
