    RS90 project

Well its been a long time coming... and I'm really excited and sad at the same time.

I swapped an AAN into my 1995 90. Now that I am ready to start it; it won't

I have a Bentley repair manual and it went through a few things.

I don’t get spark. I know fuel is flowing through the fuel rail...

    I checked:

1 Check control of power output stages
2 Check voltage supply for ignition coils
    3 Crank Position Sensor
    4 Engine Speed Sensor
    5 Cam Position Sensor

New flywheel (Pin should be good)

In the repair manual said if all is ok the ECM could be bad.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check the fuses with the "motor" cover on. should be two together, part of the engine loom.
Sounds like you have no power to the coils, It is a aan ecu? not a 3B?

Check blink codes/VAG-COM errors. That is place to start usually. Also there can be ECU with immo.

do you have a feed going to your injectors?

this is what i put on a switch, was either blue/black or blue cant remember but needed 12v for engine to run, if your injectors arent pulsing when your cranking then id look for that wire!

AAN inlet. Most of the engine is similar to ABY bar the intake system (I think)

                  Cheers,

First off thanx All for the reply's

I have power going to the coil packs and power output stages... And I know for a fact it isn't sparking.

I don't have a vagcom, I may have to buy one tho.

I will check the power to the injectors tonight.

Is there any way to test the ECM. I will probably have to find someone with a URS4 in my area and plug my ECM into their car. The reason why I'm worried is that when I bought the ECM it was cracked open and I really don't know if its good

All of my fuses for the engine harness have power flowing to them.

Also the only part of the harness I cut was the part that plugs into the car- the harness is normal between the engine and ECM.

If only a few coils worked it would still try to start right?

If the timming is off would it try and start funy?

Yes. It should start. I have made AAN running on two cylinders once .

EDIT:Replace word flywheel with crankshaft. I meant front pulley, not the flywheel. At the time I'm suffering from the flu, so stupid me mixed the words

Yes. It should do that. But check it first (marks, labels). I have seen problem that flywheel woodruff key (search for these two words here) started to break, and engine
refused to start. Check it. New teeth are only 40eur from the stealer. It's known bug on AAN and ABY engines. If it brakes completely - you will bend valves.

Yes. I know how you feel. When I have swapped engine. ECU interface chip was fried. You can imagine how demolished I was feeling

So list of things to check:
                          1. Timing marks and flywheel woodruff key.
                          2. ECU code, I mean numbers on ECU like 0280... (write here or PM me)

                            Thanx Sau,

I will double check the flywheel and timing.

I do not have a vagcom to pull codes if it comes down to it I will buy one

The timing key is still in place.

I know that there is power going to the ECM, injectors and coils.

Will post more soon; all Ideas are appreciated.
