My B3 80 quattro Has Returned...

Right, I should make it clear that this is really is the last on my list of projects, though I do want to do a few odds and sods on it in the mean time when I have five minutes spare here and there.

I rescued this car from a scrappy probably eight years ago, it had two days MOT left so the guy stuck it on eBay for £300 buy it now to give it one chance before going in the crusher. At the time these cars were basically worthless unless really tidy, so I hit 'buy it now' and went and picked it up, drove it home in fact.

To cut a long story short the car had belonged to one lady owner from new and whilst it was a bit tatty around the edges it was straight and solid with a FSH. She'd taken it for an MOT and been quoted an absurd amount of money to get it through, not knowing any better she scrapped it. I got it home and over the pit, tighten one exhaust clamp, changed a flexible hose and fitted some good second hand rear brake pads. Took for a test, flew straight through with no advisory's, I then used it as a winter hack for a few years.

While I was crazy my drive looked a mess so I was pretty much forced into giving the car away to keep the neighbors happy. A mate of mine collected it, did nothing with it and left stand for two years. To be fair he's a very busy man and I'd made certain adjustments to the front end after an encounter with a hedge so he simply couldn't find time or be bothered to repair it.

Anyway, a couple of weeks back he told me he was sick of looking at it and was going to scrap it. I couldn't see that happen so I gave him scrap value for it and retrieved with the help of another mate with a car trailer and got it the three miles back to my place.

Now I've sorted my drive and workshop out I can simply tuck it away for the future. I was all set to stick a PD engine in it but B5Nut talked some sense into me and told me to leave it alone. After all the existing 3A 2.0 eight valve has only done about 120K and runs perfectly well and as I say has a FSH.

I know people love a few pics so here it is.... I've picked up all the parts to repair the damage including a brand new decent quality radiator and genuine Audi wing that whilst it's the wrong colour is totally rot free, not even any surface rust, can only have been on the breaker I got it from for a year or so tops.

Got on eBay and sourced all the parts to fix it costing me a grand total of £170.

Not got any major plans for it as I have a MK2 Golf G60 that I should be working on to make some space and put a decent chunk of change in the RS2 restoration pot. Though the basic idea is to make it as light as possible, get the the 3A running perfectly, fit some poly bushes along with the coil-overs I've got left over from my S2 and use it as a winter hack again.

Won't be many updates on this thread as like I say I have much more important projects to be attending to, though I would like to make it look presentable and drive properly in the mean time, it's only going to cost me time.

It's already pretty much completely stripped out as the interior that was in it was beyond stinking and got skipped. The two velour seats come from a CQ that I looked after for another member some years ago, he gave them to me when he fitted some leather seats to his car, well I fitted them for him.

Yes I do have the other BBS RA wheel, they're 14" and will be staying on the car, the idea is to keep is standard as I can ,just make it seriously light weight.

In the mean time I'll look out for a decent interior to go back in it at some stage as B5Nut quite rightly pointed out that these cars are now getting rare and sought after so I won't be doing anything irreversible to it.

The mighty 3A powerhouse! All nice and original and apart from a good tidy up staying this way...
