Project Hot Rod - 1991 Coupe quattro

I picked up this tornado red coupe quattro here in Georgia a couple weeks back. The owner had started a s2 conversion but didnt have the time to finish, so it came with almost everything i needed to compete the swap. While everything is open with the engine removed i might as well replace things that are easy to do.

The plan is to complete the engine swap with the included built engine with rods and ARP bolts as well as a ported head with new valves and pair that with a borg warner S200-SXE turbo.

The car came with grey interior , but most of the parts to swap to black are there and i might dye the parts depending on how much of a restoration i feel like doing.

Its not a garage but its better than being rained on and it gets shade for most of the day

I started to look at the engine bay and see what i should replace while the engine is out

I noticed this bushing was a little cracked

Swaybar bushing looks good but original

I decided to drop the subframe and inspect the transmission mounts as well.

These look like they might be due for replacement



So i decided to just go ahead and order new bushings.

Verkline Street Hardness bushings for subframe and sway bar
Lemforder bushings for control arms
Oem transmisson mounts

I removed the old bushings and prepped it for paint as it was a little greasy and some spots had chipped paint with rust starting to form.

These pressed out so easily

All degreased and ready for paint

Painted and ready for new bushings

I also couldnt leave those crusty brackets on the steering rack and brake bomb so i painted some more stuff....you know while im in there

The poly bushings had a little trouble pressing in they would deflect and push to one side going in un even, i used a pry bar to push around the bushing and it helped. 50039548-01ae-41d3-bff1-b679520032f3.jfif

Sway bar bushings don't come sliced so i used these scissors and they did a great job and cut it pretty straight.

Im still waiting on hardware for transmission mounts and the lemforder control arm bushings but once i get everything in the engine bay cleaned i will be reinstalling.

Cleaned the fenders and took out the liners to pressure wash. There was loads of dirt up near the strut mount.

So i replaced the heater Core today and saw i need to do some repairs on the heater box

a little bit of corrosion, my new heater core looks identical lol so hopefully it does better with fresh coolant

And another hurdle to overcome , there is no machining done for the cam sensor mounting bracket. I will see if my brother can design something for me so i can 3d print it for mockup 9bceec12-7d61-401c-a8cd-3c20e69f50ad.jfif

Also did a oil change on the 1993 daily driver, and i discovered a split in my axle boot. i knew i had another in the shed to i took it out prematurely. And guess what the one in the shed also had a tear

Some small progress removed leaky steering rack, it seems impossible to do once motor is in so i will change it out now. arrives tommorow but problably wont have time till the weekend

thank you i thought it did too but wasnt sure something i forgot to take picture of

i have new rebuilt steering rack the new one has both ports close together the old one has one port on the steering shaft, is it okay to use or should i change it out, these are the pics
