Thanks John, I expect you can see why I went for the deal, there's at least double what I paid for the car just in all the spares just on the floor some of which I really need for the TQS like the undamaged rear bumper, not to mention all the panels and interior stuff I've still got to take. The car is going nowhere for a while, as I've mentioned the drive train and complete rear suspension is going to good use on a B4 quattro conversion with a highly tuned PD engine.

I don't personally have any five pot TDI parts but the chap I had the TDI from has got loads of stuff stashed for them and is having a good clear out, what parts are you after mate? I know he's got a complete 2.4 bottom end in the way in his workshop and I'm sure there's all sorts of other parts knocking about.

Apart from a quick clean which I can do first thing in the morning the Jazz is now as MOT ready as can get it. The guy I use is very fair and knows I do all my own work so doesn't fish for problems, he's rushed off his feet as it is, the only thing that may catch me out is one of the wishbone bushes which is no big deal. I'll just whack a complete replacement wishbone from eBay on there for about £20.

It's just occurred to me I've used him or one of guys working there for every single MOT in 29 years this month, my first car was 1.3 MK2 Golf C which was a great little car, though I replaced it with an 8V GTI within the first year.

I'm going to get back to doing B5 stuff, starting with finding homes for all the spares on the floor as walking around the stuff is starting to really irritate me.!

Also, as I have eight years no claims currently doing nothing I'm looking at taking out a classic multi car policy with Lancaster who I was with for years until the whole burning Caddy debacle this time last year, they base it on my most valuable car so fingers crossed the RS2 may see the road again this summer.

Like you I've been going to the same place for MOTs' for a long time, same place as I went to for work experience when I was at High School......and back then it WAS an experience !
I've a 5-pot tdi which has a slack timing belt, bought unseen as a non runner, not sure what I'll need yet, at worst head off and new valves and guides but I've yet to investigate. My fingers are crossed !

Having a dependable MOT man is really important if running older cars, the chap I use is 100% fair, he'll even let little things go sometimes if I say I'm going to fix it ASAP...

By the sounds of it you need to remove all the glow plugs and carefully time the engine up, with no compression you have to really try to bend a valve, set it so all the piston's are half way down then set the cam in position, I seen to recall the pulley is on a taper and the cam locks with a horizontal slot on the gearbox end. Then carefully bring the pistons up until the crank pulley is on it timing mark as well then you can lock the pump and cam and tension the belt properly so you can do a leak down test. It may well be fine and that'll save you having to pull the head off and cost of the gasket set band bolts etc unless a valve is already bent

No worries John, if you're after and parts for it just drop me a WhatsApp mate.

The Jazz just went straight through an MOT so my efforts were worth it.

TDI B5 Sport now booked in for next Tuesday at 08.30.

I'm going to try and be a bit better at photographing progress so here's my best pair of B5 rear suspension turrets...

They're still rubbish compared to B4 items which I've put a wanted add up for a pair so if anyone reading this has a pair of B4 quattro turrets knocking about that don't have holes in then please drop me a PM...

I'm going to persist with repairing these in the meantime but would rather simply use better quality components.

Am also looking at converting FWD B4 turrets to quattro spec, I think this is viable option so I'm going to borrow one today and have a look.

Just for reference modifying FWD B4 turrets to fit a quattro while possible is more work than repairing my poxy B5 ones. Bother I was hoping that was going to be a good little dodge... Oh well at least I've ruled it out.

Had a truly great day in the end, car MOT'd by 08.30, went and a look at some B4 FWD turrets and they're no good. So thought I'd phone a mate who crashed an RS2 10 years ago after the rear strut towers if he still had them and wanted to sell them. He instantly said yes which obviously cheered me up. Went to go and get them, not only are they virtually rust free, the bushes in the arms have been replaced so took the complete assembly's for a very fair price....

However, its also the same mate I had my TQS from who'd lost a box with a lot of very important 1.8T parts in which I've been trying to locate for nearly a sodding year! Whilst stripping the rear struts down I spotted the box as well as a lot of other part's hidden under a load off rags in a corner of his cluttered workshop which was under other crap last time I went there to search for it... Which is an absolute result as I can finally put the car back together properly without having to purchase anything or pinch part's from my other complete 1.8T engine. It's a lot more parts than I recalled being missing and all in really good condition as its been in storage for years.

Not only that he still had the basically new genuine Audi clutch RS2 from TPS that I'd fitted for him about 100 miles before he crashed, so it may as well be brand new. As well as genuine Audi RS2 water pump fitted about 500 miles before the accident which again may as well be new and I got a very agreeable deal on them.

So aside from a cambelt I've got everything required to mechanically recommission my car, I just need an RS2 belt as the idle roller and tensioner on my car are only 5K old and I've got a billet bottom pulley in stock.

Result ! We were discussing quattro rear suspension turrets on here a while back.

l think I recall the RS2 accident on here - was that really 10 years ago?!

                          Indeed an absolute result mate.

I recall you warning me about B5 quattro rear turrets being rust prone, I did check mine out and they looked okay from the front's. However as soon as I removed the ones from the breaker which are paper thin and really beyond economic repair I though I better check out the the ones on both my B5's more closely.

And yep, all four have serious corrosion on the rear's and inside the tubes, enough to make me concerned about their structural integrity even once repaired, the decent pair of B4 one's in my stash sorted the TDI, but I wasn't very happy about the state of ones from my TQS. I spent over two hours working on them but you know what it's like with rust, look at what's there and double it, at least.

By the time I'd just about got them prepped for welding there was as much rust on my bench as metal left in the entire things, I can only assume Audi cheapened out on them and down graded the thickness and grade of steel as I've never seen a B4 with this issue.

And I knew that box of TQS engine parts would eventually come to light, I'd searched every box in my workshop and resigned myself to having to source missing parts and pinch them from my spare engine but wanted to check my mates workshop one more time as I felt like I was going mad. I can now finally put the car back together properly without having to find or buy anything as well as put together another complete, ready to go TQS 1.8T AJL engine using Dave's old engine as a base. Though as I'm going to want to fully strip and rebuild it I'd like to reassemble it with some rods ready for real power.

The RS2 bit's were a mega bonus, the clutch really may as well be new it's not even started to bed in, I've still got the receipt from TPS, and as I know the history of the water pump I've zero worries reusing it. My RS2 is currently running a full ABY Gates belt kit, which still looks fine but is nearly 20 years old now so despite it only having done 7K miles the belt must be replaced and I'd really like to put it back as Porsche intended.

And yep, it was spring of 2016 when my mate rolled his first RS2 and managed to destroy every panel on the car, he was extremely lucky the airbag deployed in time and almost certainly saved his life. If you recall he then ended up buying two more one of which he's still got safely tucked away, I'm going to try and get mine back on the road this summer so I'm going to suggest he get's his rolling again as well. Time does indeed fly!

No, definitely not! Just rolling in the conventional sense will be just fine with me.

But yeah, he had to take evasive action due to an on coming car in the middle of the road and put a back wheel down a deep ditch before all hell broke loose and the car went sideways before it must of flipped. Ending up back on it's wheels in a field after leaving gouge marks in about 20 yards of tarmac and 15 feet down a steep bank after going through trees and a substantial fence.

I used my dumper and a chain to recover the car and had to basically drag it the mile or so to his place as the wheels all pointed different directions.

He was extremely lucky to simply get out of the car and walk away.
