    Abandoned RS2 in Taiwan

Hi everyone! I am a new member of the Audi S2 community, and have joined with the purpose of finding out more information to potentially own a dream car of mine, a Nogaro Blue RS2. I have been an enthusiast all my life, mainly collecting neo-vintage Porsches, old Jags, Aston Martins along with my father, who shares and started my passion. While I live in California currently, we are from Taiwan, and have recently come across an abandoned RS2. The vehicle has been in the country for many years, and was an alleged parts car for another complete RS2 on the island (there are 4 here), before being left on a street in an industrial, rural area of Taipei. The car ended up being sold as pretty much scrap to a close friend, and thus, I am now looking into purchasing, restoring, and then importing the car into the U.S. for ourselves. Now, here the two questions I have for everybody:

    1. Where may I be able to find parts for the RS2? It seems that a lot of parts are shared with the S2, however, specific parts, such as the Recaros + backseats/door panels, dashboard, I am unable to source and find. Yes, this car will need a lot.

    2. RS2s (and other older vehicles imported into Taiwan) have a tricky registration situation. Most of the vehicles were not sold here brand new, and were imported in at a much later date. However, Taiwan, having very strict registration regulations, does not end up issuing titles to many imported vintage/enthusiast vehicles, even if the owners have paid the import tax (which exceeds 70%) as testing is after the tax is paid. Hence, a lot of owners end up importing the car into the country as parts (20% tax), assembling it here, then either switching the VIN for another similar-year legal Audi or acquire dealer plates by registering businesses as an auto dealer/supplier. Regardless, most vintage cars here do not get driven because of these rules. As a result, this car does not have any form of title, government-certification, importation documents, beyond a bill of sale that I can sign between myself and the current owner. I am not sure if anyone here has imported an RS2/other vehicles to the U.S., but does anyone have any information to whether importation is at all possible in this case?

Given the state of the car, I can imagine most people here may think I am insane. However, I am and have been a fan of the RS2 for a very long time, but given the incredible prices these cars have gotten to, I am not sure if I agree with the market (plus I am a sucker for a project). I believe that this car (WACZZZ8CZTZ000231) can be restored at a very reasonable cost, and I am thus, asking if the community can give me some information to help me on my journey. I am happy to have joined the forum, and I look forward to hearing everyone's responses!

    Best,
    Hector

Realistic market value is no more than 10,000 (very generous) in my opinion. There are so many bits missing, so much damage and so many modifications that I can see already, it will already cost at minimum another 30,000 in parts alone to get it back to where it needs to be. Parts are not easy to source but not impossible, unless the car is sold as a really good deal, I wouldn't bother.

Hey! Thank you for the reply. Yes, the car is being sold as a very good deal. I am pretty much only factoring in parts, restoration and shipping in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think it can be restored at a reasonable cost.

        Front seats $3.5k+
        Cluster/aux $1500 in Mph
        front bumper $3k+
        Door sill trims NLA
        Headlining/a/b/c/d pillar trim nla
Carpet lhd will be hard to get
        door cards $1k
        Carbon with airbag $1.5k

and that's just a quick scan, i can see more in the picture. Good luck with it but be expected to spend a lot more.

Hell yes! Go for it. It will take you years to find the parts and it will be a money pit but if you don't, you will regret it forever.

The Recaro seats were also fitted as an option in the 80 cabriolet (with different head rests) and come up now and again here in the UK.
door cards and rear seats are identical to S2 Avant except from black pull handles.
From your pics, I dont think that much is missing.
The registration issue will be the difficult bit.

Thank you for the comment, I will look into a parts list. The engine does not seem to be missing too many parts, mostly the interior. Are you located in the U.S?

Surely at this stage any S2/RS2 has to be worth saving? Even if it does take years to gather all the bits!

throw in some carpets and door cards off a lesser spec model and focus on getting the mechanicals recommissioned, then you could start driving it. Then fit the genuine parts when you find them.

I'm sure most of us on here regret the 10k RS2 we didnt take a gamble on!
Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris.

Lovely long term project ,personally I think any RS2 has to be saved it is afterall the first of the RS breed, a very special development in car production, I recently parted with my beloved S2 Coupe' and have regrets but bought a newer RS3 to help ease the pain Good luck on your adventure

Not sure on the registration, youd have to look into it depending on the state you are trying to register in.

in your case i would search for some information on how to get it registered. if you cant register its just for parting.
seems to be a floded car and has a rear quarter damage. you need to get the chassis straight and after that is just time and money you need to get it back on the road. your looking in around 3 years in time and around 40k to get in some drivable form.
