Take the 20v engine and wiring out.
Put the 3b engine and wiring in with a crossmember and intercooler and an S2 bumper.
      Job done.
Wab / Azman did it on Azman's 20v quattro coupe in just over three days IIRC.
Running gear on a 20v 90 quattro is almost identical so no upgrade gearbox or diff required.

sounds promising. i'm having a nosey to see what 90q20v I can see on ebay. I was going to get Azman's nightfire red shell to reshell my coupe but it's too big a job to do myself. i'll keep investigating and decide what i'm going to do once i get the sodding thing running again. That's probably quite an important step in my proceedings

Did you borrow a garage or something to work with mate? Or did you do most of it on your drive? I remember a recent coversation about us not having garages. I can't for the life of me figure out if there are enough dry days in scotland to do it in a year. hehe

I know I'm looking to do this the hard way as a 90q would be quite easy to fit a 3B engine to. However, I would want an ABY engine and CGR gearbox, I'm not sure what ratio diff the 90q has but it would certainly need a different prop to fit that gearbox and possible the rear diff. The other thing is I want to keep my folding rear seats. I know that losing this feature sounds like a reasonable compromise as the engine mounts would already be in place with a 90q but it would mean I couldn't easily fit my mountain bike in the boot which would really annoy me.

As finding an NG B4 80q isn't likely (if they were even made), using my 80 2.8 quattro seems like the best way to go. Nothing too major would have to be done to the car and I already own it. Also I have spent loads on the replacing all the suspension bushes and I wouldn't want to have to do that all over again with a 90q. As the subframe should take the 6 speed gearbox and the suspension is the same as an S2 avant it wouldn't be too difficult to do.

As you already have a 3B S2 it wouldn't be difficult to fit the engine to a 90q. I'm just looking to do it the hard way to get a 6 speed gearbox, no dizzy and folding rear seats!

If you wanted it easy you wouldn't belong on here mate. Think that seems to be the gist of things. I know what you mean about the mountain bikes though. I'm not that happy with mine hanging off the back on a rack. hell, you could be bloody miles away by the time you realise it ain't there any more.
New civic has a good feature. back seat bases flip up so you can roll a full sized mountain bike right in there upright.

                  B4 to s2 conversion?

                  80Quattro,
Need a hand, i'm local and looking to practice this conversion, also learning to mig weld, slowly.

I'm looking round for the right b4q!

                  PM me.
                  Carlos.

On the look out for less bits for my s2 saloon project. Now supporting myself by shooting for my food. www.airgunforum.co.uk

Unfortunately I don't have the money to start this yet. I'm probably looking at it being another year before I can. I'm thinking my best option is to get a written off S2 avant as then I can just swap everything over and I should only have to get the engine mounts welded on. A coupe would also be ok I would just need to find a rear diff with the correct ratio (unless it is possible to change mine) and either get my prop shortened or get an S2 avant one.

I am also slowly learning to mig weld, it is essential as I own a mini and I wouldn't be able to keep it on the road otherwise. I don't know if I would trust myself to weld the engine mounts on yet, the closest thing I have done so far is the engine steady bracket on my mini.

Once I have the money time and parts I need to do this conversion I will let you know as I would really appreciate the help but sadly it won't be that soon. You will probably manage to do it before me, if you do let me know as it would give me a chance to see all the things I hadn't thought about which are needed to do this conversion.

Which 80q are you looking at using? I think there was one with the NG engine which would probably be the most suitable but I don't think I've ever seen one.

                    Matt

Having a 90 quattro 20v would make it a lot easier.I sold mine last year but bought it back as i was missing it too much. The conversion itself is quite straightfoward if your using a 90, my cuz has done it to a 80 2.6 quattro which wasnt without its problems ie engine mounts/brackets in the wrong place.

Do you have any information on what parts are needed to mount a 20v engine in a V6 80q? I know the side members are different on the V6 compared to the I5, does this whole section need to be cut out and the correct one welded on to be able to fit the engine mounts? When I am able to do this conversion I really want it to be a B4 not a B3 so I would be prepared to go to the extra effort to achieve that.

the V8? I saw that earlier. Def wouldn't go for something that expensive if I was going to risk a butchering. Hell I might just keep an eye for a 90q20v and just drive it.
