Laser Avant s2 project thread

Well Sunday night i jumped on the ferry to Alans (laser avants)

looked like a nutter carrying a 5cly head in a box (very heavy)

So we started,
heres the pictures i will let Alan fill you guys in as i am at work

Thanks for starting the thread off James and for all your help matey Basically its the same old story bought the S2 avant (230 brake) and after a while i sorted a few minor issues ie usual boost leaks etc and got it running well... then i wanted a bit more power so had it homefried (280 brake)... then i decided i would go the sensible/simple route and simply RS2 spec it and have RS2 homefries (360 brake) not needing anymore power than that tbh and it will still be fine for everyday use. Would have had it all done by monday evening if it wasnt for not being able to remove the downpipe we ran out of time tbh and everything is ready to go when the next day arrives when we can get together again. Bit of time to add to the story so far... on removing the aby head we discovered the head gasket had gone/was going but as we had the RS2 adu head and RS2 metal gasket ready to throw on no probs there (had an minor overheating issue just before work started with a load of steam from the expansion tank cap after the last hard run) RS2 head had been cleaned up and skimmed by James and his engineer pal as i had got the RS2 down pipe from Bram ready to go on with a full Miltek from Dave the old S2 down pipe had to come out but this was a stumbling block and as i said earlier... it had to come out`downwards`but the driveshaft protector blocked its exit... been reliably informed with this removed it would exit reasonably easily but time was against us. Needless to say new gaskets everywhere and new nuts and bolts where used or ready to be used when needed. Just looked at the pics and noticed a lovely shot of the RS2 head on the bench with the RS2 turbo all bolted up ready to go vary niiiiiiiice shot that Mr.James (not sure about the one of me on those bolts looking like one of the Mitchel brothers i said no photos of me James) Any questions very welcomed Im sure James can add to the thread as well... Just thought id mention something that came up in conversation re the work done on the car... well a couple of things actually. The RS2 metal head gasket came from Pete at Quattro Corner for £25 including next day delivery! very knowledgeable and a top chappie. Loads of nuts, bolts and other bits and bobs came from Vag parts (if you say what you are doing they know what you need...ideal for the less experienced). Got a few spare S2 bits and bobs that have been removed and replaced with RS2 so ask if you need anything That GT85 stuff was amazing for freeing up bolts that werent budgable even with lashings of WD40. The GT85 seems thinner and penetrates better oh er missus

Mini Meet

Right this is really scary.. but looking at this thread ive just realised its been well over a month since ive even set eyes on my car I have sourced quite a few bits and bobs to fit now and all being well this sunday will have a good few hours to tinker with her already have a team of experts ready to assist in the form of James (terrybullwon) and Rob`Bertie`(Bertman) This is the plan... basically get the bloody thing up and running again (simple as that) If you are at all local to me thats Chichester, West Sussex, and want to pop down for a sort of mini meet or join us skimming our knuckles you are more than welcome to come and say hallo

Naughty naughty but nicey nicey Ive just been up the top of the garden to lock the kids bikes in the shed and on the walk back to the house glanced up to see my next door neighbour undressing (26 year old ok boat race... well fit bod) im no perv but i dragged my heels a bit all the same (ok im a perv i admit it... arent we all though )
