  • forged rods standard pistons?

as the title suggests i was wandering if it was worth running standard pistons and forged rods? . I only ask this because my plan was to use forged pistons as well but they were only .2 oversize and when my head gasket went the heat expanded the block past that. So the new plan is to re bore it .5 then put it non forged mahle pistons but will forged rods help this setup thanks

Stock pistons will get you into the 10's easy. I'm going with about 600 hp in my avant with stock pistons. We've benched a S2 with stock bolts (piston bolts) and pistons to 671 hp.

Just go for scats that corey sell, or some other nice stuff. forget about parner though.

Uprated rods will save your bottom end from mega high boost levels on big turbos. The stock pistons aren't as light as funky forged mosport spec items but they will be absolutely fine well over 450bhp.

          Weight difference and quality.
And they are clubsy as hell.

Some can have over 10-15 g difference. that's madness

            'clubsy' ???

Totally agree that tolerance and balance is better with mosport spec items, but a nice engine balance job would sort that out much cheaper than new pistons... But granted they will never be just as light.

I found the price of stock oversize pistons was very near a set of JE's, was a no brainer IMO.

So if you`re gonna use Aby ks pistons how much can you safely take off them to lower the compression.
And if you take them flat to the bottom of the dish roughly what CR would you be running

That's a pretty ghetto way of doing it

We never drop the piston down the bore to decrease compression. That is wrong....
Search for team bodge sorry Audiman's posts. He did this

It works I believe he used a completely flat top piston

JE would say that theyre selling pistons

But seriously i have a budget and the standard pistons are very strong.

When machining them flat you`re getting rid of the squish area which is`nt doing bottom end off boost power much good but can help stabilize the flame and run less detonation.

I think some race cars run without squish as they have limited need for it.

I can show you how my stock pistons look after 15000km with 500-600 hp and LOT'S of abuse if you don't believe me.

                            It's all about tuning aron

No offence. but 203 km/h with an avant sais it all.

                              true,
i changed my own pistons which are fine, only because i had to go a bit larger and still went with mahle cast/forged,not true forged pistons.I was told they are to last longer than forged.Again, tuning correctly is a necessity
