    1.8 t quattro conversion-thoughts please

After reading a lot about the 20 valve 1.8 turbo I d thought i d try fitting one to a coupe quattro series 2 i have ( may even shorten it too)
Has anyone done this conversion before?
Plan on keeping the 5 speed box as it s done ok behind an aby, it should manage this one.
Also, has anyone fitted a chevy v8 to a fwd box? Mate building a kit car wants one.
Mail me or leave a message on the thread please.

the 1.8t is certainly a tried and test in the golf community and there is plenty of hardware available for them so probably quite a good option

There is at least one C3 Audi 100 fitted with an LT1 Chevy V8 in America. I don't know how well the 01E tranny has survived (or not). What I do know is one 01E expert suggests that using a 01E with a V8 in a mid-engined kit car will not work for long (read the info at the URL below)

There was a coupe on Ebay about six months ago with a 1.8t engine in it. Don't think they managed to finish the conversion though.

and only a few trannys have the boltpattern for the 4syl AND 5 syl.... i have only 2 of them, at home in my tranny colletions.....
the tranny will stand the chevy engine, if it dont are tuned wery well( 700+hp) the torque are the pain... but the audi v8 does have some torque too, and the same trannys as IL 5....

This is fitted onto a five speed box so it will fit a 6 speed too.

The only problem i can see is the I5 leans over more than the 1.8 i think they do this to lower the C of G and make space for the sump and the bonnet, and whan the 1.8 is bolted onto a I5 tranny the oil level is abnormal but i dont think its a big issue.

If you do, get one from an in line eg A4, plus the ancilliaries, makes your project a little easier.

                    bought

Thanks for the info and pictures folks.
I ve bought a cheap A4 turbo to have a look at what s what.
My theory is if golfs can use the 4 cylinder audi engine ( similar to the 1.8 in some audi gts) then the lot should bolt together in some fashion-sump, flywheel, mount from the early engine.
I ve done fabrication before so mounts etc aren t an issue.
As for the noise, well, I ve got a 5 pot in the other 2 quattros and the ur replica sounds best of all ( likened to an s1 so i ve been told, never let anyone else drive it past me so i can listen!)
