I have to say Andy I am suprised with Charlie's work on his one, but i kind of understand why. As far as the double booking is concerned, i understand that the original booking was for Phil's quattro which was cancelled before you made your booking, then after you made your booking Mike turned up in his place with another S2? no fault to either of them, just one of those things. Sounds like Charlie probably just got tired and started making mistakes which is fair enough after working from that morning (likely 9am) till 10pm that night..... on a Saturday! Just something to bear in mind when you asses the work, not making excuses for him anything. I hope you get it sorted anyway.

About the flexi-pipe, i reckon they are unnecessary. Never had one on any of my coupe's and the manifolds are fine.

i agree on the flexi pipe. The movement of the springs around the cats area are enough especially if your engine is secured with the snub mount and the motor mounts.

Yeah i see what you're saying there Papvas.

My engine is now on motorsports, so no problem at all with movement. My old coupe was on standard knackered mounts and no cat, so didn't even have those springs on the flange and was fine. I think if i wanted it to last 10+ years i would use a flexi joint, but otherwise ok.

I get some vibrations in the cabin and can't be sure that these aren't due to the exhaust although the SM flywheel is also a suspect. At least with a flexi I can rule out the exhaust for good.

Alex, I felt really bad for Charlie and he was nothing other than courteous and professional, I have emailed him with a plan of action and he can have the car as long as is necessary. Shame that we somehow didn't realise between us that he needed the car for longer and that was fine with me .

Top address the noise issue, I've suggested a removable centre box to give me lots of noise but also some way of reducing it for tracks like COmbe where they're quite strict. This can be tied into an extended 3" system as that's what I asked for and thus expected.

The removeable box "ought" to be a piece of pee. Two mikalor clamps, one at each end and a matching bypass pipe when you want to be loud! Robert is your dads brother.

            Cheers,

            Steve.

My thoughts exactly, should be a neat solution and good fun with it!

The whole thing really is a massive shame but i suspect when he gets the car back he will make up for it by giving you a most excellent exhaust

Looking forward to seeing this at Coombe.

Any increase in power as is anyway? Is it still not louder top end?

It's about the same noise, if not quieter and the performance seem sabout the same as the DP and cat are better but the exhaust is narrower so more restrictive. It's difficult to tell such small changes, especially from the passenger seat where it feels damned fast no matter what.

Not going to make Combe I'm afraid. Feel free to pop by Bristol anytime though

Just took the car for a proper drive and it feels really nice. There's more power there for sure so hopefully it'll be sweet when all finished

Andy have you fitted your 034 density top mounts yet?

                      What are they like?

Not yet, they're in the kitchen, the springs are in the hall and the bmp stops are in the garage... need to get it sorted sometime as I can't do them myself at the mo.

                            haha

I'm going to order some track density mounts and a snub mount bracket from Joe at Axis this month, was after some reviews - really hoping for a bit more positive steering response and longevity... lets hope so
