have you cleaned up the pads and discs yet? I had a similar one for 6 months, did wheel bearing etc with no effect.. turned out to be metal ground into the pad.

Thanks for the tips guys! I hadn't thought about the splash guard, will check that one tomorrow as I had that on the coupe once. Easily could have got bent while doing the CV boot...

The disc is cleaned up nicely Sonic, you did it remember Discs and pads were new about 1,000 miles ago though the car was stood in a chicken barn for 2 years between then and now.

Otherwise I'll do the wheel bearing check and tweak the pins on the caliper. They are very close as the dics are almost new.

the facilities they have now are actually very good now - if i am to be factual about said company - just a shame about the other issues...

I can't believe how easy it was to pull that stud - i thought it was going to be difficult when the mole grips chewed it up! But I was loaned a 12mm stud remover, my bro-in-law popped round with a file - we soon made it fit and it came loose at first attempt.

Only potential issue now I haven't addressed is the brake lines, they're on the cards to be done shortly but it would be so much easier to get it road legal and do them after! Gonna book it in for an MOT and keep my fingers crossed... watch this space...

              :mischeif:

Sooo, a quick update here as it's been a while...

Today I managed to find half an hour to change the plugs while I was out doing the lawn (of course, I had to get the car out to get the mower, so it made sense...) and DAMN, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

The old ones were particularly nasty, replaced with new Bosch items from GSF (£36 all in with discount!), started her up and there was instantly a smooth, warbling idle - noticeably better than the rough running I'd put down to bad fuel. Naturally I had to take it for a quick 15 minute spin to check everything is working in advance of the impending MOT.

Took her up to cruising speed, instantly noticeable smoother on pick-up, also smooth when backing off and changing gear - almost a different car. Took a while getting up to temp so I really just cruised in a big circle until 2 miles from home, hit the dual carraigeway and decided to nail it in 2nd...

I had forgotten how fast yet smooth the S2 is. It has actually been just over 2 years since I nailed it in the car; before all the blown engine saga. She surged forward as it instantly spooled, boost built rapidly and there was still ~1bar when I shifted just past 6,000rpm. The 5-pot roar really kicked in from 4,000rpm and I couldn't help but keep it pinned to 7,000rpm in 3rd...

So just wanted to say, she is not only running but running well, should be even better with some fresh V-power in there, i just need to get her in for an MOT some time in the next few weeks and see what else I need to put on my list

Here's to many more miles of S2 fun

I wonder if he'll have the cheek to be there this year... he owes a few grand to autometrix so i doubt it

                        A touch of V-Power

I just need to get Sonic to detail the car and put a few pics up to finish this thread now

Latest news is that the car went in for MOT, and after an intial fail due to a disconnected side-repeater, it passed with an advisory on front brake lines as expected, but also with fuel line corrosion... gives me something to do this summer!

Now taxed and road-legal, this project can be deemed a success

I can't say it enough, could never have done it without the time, tools and expertise of those on the forum who have made this possible.

The car had a tank of fresh V-power today and after some thrashing on B-roads round bridgnorth she is now picking up very strongly, seeing 1.4bar in the midrange... good to see the ECU is adapting :mischeif:

So moving on from the Engine replacement, it's now onto the usual of dreaming about more power and little tweaks in the mean time. Hoping to see this girl close to 300BHP out of the K24 by the end of the year

After all this time she is finally back up and running. GLad to hear of the success.
Now get out there and enjoy her.... you certainly deserve it.
                          Cheers
