I agree, but the problem is that it goes against his spool goals...

The tune typically needs to be very conservative to survive that kind of torture with a big turbo (especially with the relatively high stock compression ratio).
Ok Marc, Can EGT Kit w / Gauge and term, I will install, which you recommended putting cylinder? can be connected to VEMS too?

you must have a wideband lambda to use vems, so yes

One thing i've learned we are way behind the Scandinavians!

the higher the RPM the more timing is needed to get the EGT to a reasonalbe figure.

to add timing you need some overhead on the engine so as not to get detonation
lower compression allows for more timing to be added up the RPM range or on boost
by having say. 7.5:1-8:1 you can rev high and have high boost at the top with a reasonalbe EGT.

a standard comression mmotor wont allow for the timingt needed under high boost to keep egt down without det.

              Hi Eli,

I would install the egt probe in either cylinder #1 or cylinder #5 runner in the exhaust manifold, approximately 1" from the cylinder head outlet.

You can connect a single probe to your VEMS or a gauge, but not both at the same time. I can supply you with a probe if needed, contact me for details.

I think this thing has enough headroom for knock prevention by running ethanol... I for one wouldn't lower the compression ratio... I have never been a big fan of that... Its OK for an engine that will spend most of its life in high rev/load range but if its on the road then low end traction is important too.

I'm not convinced a 3076 can do 600bhp on this engine though - even on ethanol... I'd have thought thats into GT40R territory. Dunno for sure, but it should be very quick alright !

                  Hi Pool

thank you for clarification, I can believe that somewhere between 540bhp and 570bhp with the GT3076 not want to use larger turbo as GT40r believe would have a lag unpleasant for street use

I agree on that too GT40R would carry some more inherent lag for sure. Just nature of the beast... Always compromise decisions to be made somewhere. I think 550bhp is a good target for that spec.

What rpms are you planning to rev this thing to ?

want to have full boost around 3800rpm, up to rev limit of 7800rpm. What do you think?

Approaching limit of hydraulic lifters there at 7800rpm - make sure and get the lighter ones as fitted to more modern VAG engines - there is a thread about it here.
3071R should make big power on the right cams at high revs - I see you have a flowed head - thats a good thing...

Those light INA lifters are crap. You can rev motor to 8000-8100 with heavy lifters, but You need stiff valvesprings.

CompTurbo Ct3643b or 3673b turbo would do the trick, give full boost by 3800, and still go to 8000. Like said multiple times, there are also other choices for turbo, not only garrett bb stuff.

Although, I do not have any experience with ethanol, so cannot really say much. Cooler egt's and higher ignition advance cause later spoolup in theory, not sure about the real world.

@Repo - I don't wanna pick a fight here or nit pick you... You've built more I5T engines than most of us on here - myself included...

But can you give some objective evidence to the remarks on the lighter valve lifters ?

I understood that you need stiffer valve springs to stretch the stock lifters up to 8000rpm territory, but that gives the engine a squeak more work to do in the extra force required to open the valves... It was explained to me that these lighter lifters get the same 8000rpm range on stock valve springs.

You are obviously a big fan of the CT equipment... They are fitted to some monster machines for sure. I just think the Garrett stuff is more commonly available - and lots of people are using them with good results on a wide range of cars... For a lot of people its much easier to take a path with less unknowns than the slightly more unusual turbos.

Well, I have tried INA lifters in some occasions. Always have had issues with either collapsing heads, or deforming sides. It was no more than a month ago, my friend destroyed some 50 INA lifters during breaking in. They just collapsed, and caused issues on the head, too.

I am sure one of the problems in my cases have been too stiff springs for the lifters to withstand. Still, I severely doubt, revving with oe springs and INA lifters to 8000 would be safe.

What I am trying to point, when telling people about CT, is that there really are other turbos than these six or seven variations of Garrett ball bearing. And if You cannot reach Your goals with Garrett, maybe some other make could be a solution.

Also, I want to give people options, as some CT parts perform better throughout the range, than garrett BB, and still cost less. In some cases there would be no setbacks, only gains. E.g. I can outperform gt2871r with ct355 in all three fields, torque, power and price. This is exactly why I try to push these.

Furthermore, these exotic CT turbos can be repaired in any competent turbo shop anywhere in the world, including ball bearing ones. Very much unlike Garrett bb's, everyone seem to like so much.

Also, I am not a hater of Garrett. Most of CT compressors come from Garrett. I only do not like some of the turbine-compressor pairs they have chosen to offer with the R turbos.

Hi Repo, I use OE Lifters / HD Valve Spring and Titanium Retainers.

In future I will change the GT3076 turbo KKK and Exhaust Manifold for T3. What comp turbo ideal set of features that have:

                                - Full boost in 2.2L engine in 3500-4000RPM (street)

                                - Keep Great Flow and torque up to 7500-8000rpm

                                - Generate 600-650bhp

I look for a turbo of great use to me and good for street use in highway until 300km / h fast and with ease.
