Yay, my shell is being delivered at 7pm tomorrow well excited!

Been doing some head scratching about the engine clearance issues that Baz said about, and ive decided to try and use a 6 speed sequential box out of a skyline due to it using a transfer case. I should be able to bring the engine back enough to fit a big front mount intercooler without adverse affects on the driveshafts.

Just need to find a way of mounting the turbo without space framing the inner wings, back to the drawing board i think !

pics of the shell will be posted tomorrow night, do i have to use photobucket to due this?

    Cheers Mike

Im gonna pick up the wings next week when Ive got some more cash!

No bumpers, thinking of doing some one offs due to the big cut out I need at the front!

                  Cheers Mike

Mental project there! Wish i had done this now

I went the 1.8T route and 2wd. Now im adding TT haldex 4WD to mine, need to lay down the 450+bhp properly.

S2 running gear would have been a cheaper and easier option for me, and i would have been running a simliar setup to my old S2, so 600bhp plus and stripped out.

Hi there scaley, your project sounds extremely exciting and exactly like one I had planned with my rallye some years ago. Apologies for hijacking your thread but I have some information which may be useful for your project.

                            My rallye went from this:

                            to

During my research on the simplest method to get the quattro running gear in without destroying the rare rallye shell, I discovered that vw in their early parts sharing schemes with audi had used the same rear axle in the old 4wd quantum syncro/passat 3b syncro that was destined for the rallye. There was a twist although......those early 4wd passats/quantums that housed a north south engine and audi gearbox also had a quattro diff mounted to the rallye rear axle rather than the weak syncro that the rallye ended up with.

                            VW Quantum Syncro Front end

                            VW Quantum Syncro Back end

                            Under a quantum syncro

Audi differential with legs attached (configuration for audi subframe)

The pictures above clearly show the rallye axle housing the audi diff. I haven't got the part number to hand for the differential (easy enough to find in ETKA) but in the audi it has all the legs attached as shown in the picture above. To use it in the rallye rear axle you un bolt the legs. Not all of the audi units can be disassembled in this way.

This may or may not be of any help to you but i figured id share the information as I knew it was going to make my life a hell of a lot easier and means that you shouldn't need to do any welding at the back end.

To get the extra track width you are looking for you can then just order up some wheels with the correct width and offset that bolt up to the stock rear axle.

while my rallye sat there as a painted shell I then struggled with the idea of doing the conversion to such a rare car and decided to restore her insted......I figured that with the number of mk2's about i was better off butchering one of those.

                            Good luck mate

I sold it to a guy in MK called rich, who I assume you have purchased it from.

I was going to build a track car with a 16vt lump in it, but bought a house instead and have been skint since.
