    Project: 200,000 mile freshen up

My S2 Avant is about to roll up to 200,000 miles and so I thought I'd treat it to a bit of a fettle.

I bought the car for £2,000 around two years ago with approx 180k miles on it. Since then I've done several trackdays in it and 20,000 miles on top of what appears to have been a reasonably hard life in the past. I got the car with no history apart from one previous MOT.

    So far it's had:

Full set of BERU coil packs (RIP VAGParts )
    Throttle position sender
    Cam belt service
New 034 throttle cam as the old one broke
    New suspension (KW V2)
    Polybushes up front
    Top mounts

After a trackday at Mallory last year it started to smoke a little on gear change. I'm not sure if this is valve stem oil seals or if it's the turbo, but I think it's the turbo.

I have sourced a replacement turbo, along with a replacement exhaust manifold as mine appears to be ticking slightly.

I plan to give the engine a bit of a fettle and get it running sweetly again. It still goes like stink, but it's a modern classic and it deserves a bit of attention IMO.

So what do I need? Head gasket set, valve stem oil seals, exhaust manifold gasket?

add an IM gasket too I'd guess, and i'd replace the rocker cover gasket and replace the capheas on the rocker with s/s ones

depends how far you want to go...

id def drop the sump and check the big ends etc,
also while stripping the head you need to see how much play you have from valves to guides
if your going to do big ends and main etc then you might as well hone the bores and throw a new set of rings in
but then while the pistons are out you could check the straightness of the bores.........

its like a never endding list lol!!!! hence why 4years later my v8 coupe still isnt finnished,
