S2 Avant air con fitting

Hi All

Ive got my eye :mischeif: on an S2 avant, met blue, totally original, full service history from 1993and in great condition. Price is 6K euros (quite high, but fair i think). But it has no aircon, so was wondering if anyone has fitted an aircon set, where they would buy one from inc all loom etc and is it possible?

Having removed the complete aircon system from both mine and a friends S2, I can confidently say it's not something I'd like to try retrofitting. If you were to do all the work yourself the cost may not be to bad depending on how you source the parts, but be prepaired for a good few hours of swearing and generally becoming cross. I'm guessing, but if one was to buy all the componants new from Audi then this alone would be prohibitivly expensive. I dread to think how much a decent mechanic would want to complete such a job.

In short if you want a car with aircon, find one that has it in first place.

yes im after a LHD. Seen one in germany, looks great and by far the best ive seen but has no aircon....

so i suppose the search will go on, but as these beautyful vehicles are in short supply in good nic, i may have to bite the bullet

Someone offered me all the bits a while ago but i cleared the inbox and cant remember who it was. They said at the time it would be available soon. I think this is the best bet, find someone who is removing it and get the whole lot from them.

If I were you I'd hold on until you find one the exact spec you want, especially as your on the continent where there is a much wider choice S2's than here in the UK.

When functioning the aircon systems on these cars work well, but bare in mind the system on any S2 will be at least 13 years old and they are prone to annoying faults.

Personally I'd go for a car without aircon over one with it, but that is my choice, many others on here wouldn't go without it. Depends a fair bit on what sort of climate your going to be driving in.

If you was to go for it then i'd recommend upgrading the system to climate control with this style headunit



thats what I was going to do, even went as far as getting everything for behind the dash etc (I was going to run it without the pipework etc under the bonnet just to do away with the dials)

I agree, plus with an avant over some coupe's (not all ) you can just open all the windows and get enough of a breeze in instead.

The only thing is, after having the digital a/c in my UrS4 with it's freezing functions and display, and the numerous sticky flap motors (there's a joke there somewhere..), The S2's twiddly knobs were a refreshing revelation!

Mine has AC and I wouldn't be without it. It adds weight.. so what! So does the roof box, bike rack and caravan - it's still damn fast but I'm keeping nice and cool.

yes its a tough one, but i think i will keep looking, but i may go and take a lok at that blue one anyway. Very original. Seen another one too with aircon but not so original.
