    oh ye of little faith.

the AEB head is getting fully built with all the parts and the new inconel valves i have had for it in the "waiting to install" boxes.

i get it back in the AM.

it will run at the show no matter what. even if i have to go and get my big head (solid lifter, big cams) and run that instead.

so i got it all back together, and it had a little "tick tick" to it. so i took it to the show, picked up a sponsor or two, and put it in my main sponsors booth.

      car looked good.

this is the result of the tick tick ticking..... anyone else ever broke a wrist pin in half? and not a stock one?

that is a Wiseco .160 wall wrist pin. at least it was. now its the new 2-pc design LOL. and Scat rod, wasted the bushing, put a little twist to it, and bent it even. so its fooked too.

had to chuck up the piston in the vice, and use a drift and 4lb hammer to get the pin halves out of the piston. it took some time. it was fooked to say the least.

motor is now completely gutted. spare block goes to DJM tomorrow, along with all the parts i have for it.

new IE rods arrive tomorrow. much thanks to Pete and Dave for the quick action here. they also are getting the new JE 83mm pistons here on saturday, so we can get this thing built ASAP.

      20mm rifle drilled IE rods.
      83mm non-stroker pistons, JE.
the new custom heavy duty wrist pins from JE that are tool-steel, and have tapered ends to help with weight and thicker center section to boost strength.

hopefully have it running again by next weekend. gotta put it in @ BOTI (Battle of the Imports) at the end of the month. i have to drive this thing at least once this year!!!!

        UPDATE:

i took block apart tonight. seems i broke ALL of the wrist pins LOL.....

i think 45 psi boost spike @ 6k rpm had something to do with it, but who is to say for sure.

Send a remark to Wiseco about these piston pins. Their R&D section would be very interested in sharing this information with them for future development.

I've seen at least twenty wiseco pins to snap like that, but in every single case there has been knocking.

Other option of course was too much play in the small end bushing.

here you are Jyrki..... all the pistons look like this pretty much, to some varying degree... this is the worst one.... and all of the Scat rods are bent and/or twisted ever so much. visible to the eye... my windchime parts now LOL.

here is some more damage pictures.

and a few shots of the new parts. JE tool-steel heavy duty pins, tapered internally, .180 wall in the middle.... IE rifle drilled rods. i ordered these parts 48 hrs ago, the rods came the next day (yesterday) and the pistons today. fast service there.

Yea, like thought, it was no problem in the pins, but heavy cold welding of sleeve to bore and/or detonation.

                      So nothing new.

Beware of clearances and ring end caps. Make too loose preferably, over too tight.

                      Double check engine management mapping.

Sorry for such an explosion to happen, though. Better luck with the new stuff, just remember, no brand of pistons will hold similar misuse, so if You repeat everything You did for the first time, You will have same results pretty soon.

                      Good luck.
