Do you need to change wires/connectors for the A4 switches? They look nice.

They are plug&play except for hazard and depending on year of a4 - defogger switch. You have to use B4 switches with A4 faceplate (fits with no mods). A4 hazard switch has its own relay built in and later defogger switch doesn't have pin for mirror heating.
These switches are one of the best mods for interior, gives a lot more modern look.

So you could only just change the caps as they interchange anyway, right?!

Yes. Oh, and I forgot about about seat heating - if you have later heating harness where relay is built in switch, then no worries, B5/D2 switch will work, but if its early harness with separate relays, then IIRC faceplates are not interchange due to shape of switch.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I somehow remember I was unable to swap faceplate to seat heating button (no need for that with later wiring).

You can use ASR button faceplate on it

Its similar to one of these, just off a later car modified to fit.
