    Recommendations for instant gasket

Wondered if anyone had experiences of using instant gasket / engine silicone products ?

I am rebuilding a motorcycle engine, and the engine cases were assembled in the factory with some sort of engine grade silicone.

Therefore wondering if anyone new which ones on the market are best, and which to steer clear of.

Thanks, and sorry its a bit off the S2 topic.

Dont think its recommended for silicone, as if a bit goes off and dries inside your engine it could block oilways etc. There is a liquid gasket that audi use on sumps or the one that volvo use, its an anaerobic sealant and only works on tightened surfaces. The excess disolves and wont do harm to the engine.

I use Suzuki bond for joining crankcases. Only use the lightest smear though toward the outer edge of the joint. You can get it from Suzuki dealers of all places. If you have any problems just drop me a PM.

1.8T sump sealant from VW/Audi seems to work a treat!

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I did try some Loctite 574, which is apparently endorsed by Porsche. However it didnt seem to work. I now have plenty of other recommendations, so thanks again.

I use the Suzuki bond on all my engine cases it's what it is designed for. We even used it to seal wet liners in a big bore Triumph engine that I had liners made for. It cures to form an ring type seal.

Thanks for the advice, I will have to make some enquiries with the local suzuki dealership here in Ipswich.

It is actually a Suzuki engine that i'm rebuilding. The gearbox gave up on my GSXR750Y (apparently its a well documented problem known as chocolate gearbox), and I have had to strip the engine down to put a donor gearbox in.
