I signed up here years ago and have been lurking ever since
,
i started stripping my quattro to repair all the rusty bits and what i thought was just an engine that would need easy things fixing, but that didnt turn out to be the case,
looking though some of the other project threads this is a pretty boring one
im copying and pasteing my thread from the quattro forum!
" I Bought this about 8 years ago now, stupidly enough, when I got my first proper job at 17, not long after starting, heard about this quattro for sale and had to get it, even though I had 0 chance of driveing or insureing it! yeah I know that made lots of sense didnt it? I've been mad about quattros since I was 9 or 10 when my dad had a coupe GT run about, and me being the young silly type thought it was a quattro lol, so I bought the quattro and let my dad use it, so we could go till a few cars shows with it and stuff like that.
Here it is about a year after I bought it

I think it was 2006 or so when I decided to get it fixed up or at least thats what was suppose to happen , it was gettin a little scabby, rusty bits round the windows, inner wing rusting, suspected broken exhaust manifold and general ware and tare, I ordered 2 boxes of parts, water pump, belts, clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, handbrake cables, brake pads, filters and a load of other stuff I thought it needed, but when it came to gettin it done I just didnt have anywhere to do the work in the timeframe I thought it would take, so I just kept puttin it off,
Then in 2008 I built a small garage where I could work at my cars , nothing too big, 20x 30 I think it is, with intentions of getting the quattro in and gettin it ready for on the road!
heres a few pics from then,

but another car came up cheap that needed tidying up, a Lancer Evo 2
so out went the quattro

and in came the evo

my intenions were to strip it,fix, and spray it dandelion yellow
like this
stripped it

built a spit

got a lot done to it,

but the more I tried to fix the more I found wrong with it, the engine wasnt great, it needed a rear quarter panel as it was just filled with filler, which was the last straw really my heart wasnt in it any more, around this time an evo 3 came up cheap so I decieded to break the evo 2, with the money I made selling the parts I bought the evo 3,
so that brings us till now,
the quattro needs fixing pretty badly now, I started stripping it a little before I started working at the evo 2, I took off the wings, front bumper, and apron,
My basic plan is to-
Take the engine out,
Fix the rust with either panels I make myself or find the pieces off other shell's and weld those on
Spray the engine bay and inner wheel arches myself,
Fix a few little rusty bits in the boot and under the back seat
Refit engine after rebuilding it
fit all the panels and bumpers
Get the car painted professionally!
and fix any other problems I find lol nothing too hard right??
heres a few pictures from yesterday
I've removed the radiator, auxillary rad, power steering pump, and inlet
click on them to see the big picture!

My god are these engines tight to work at!,
theres practically no room to do anything,
I finally got the inlet manifold off

To find a lovely big crack in the exhaust manifold

It looks to have been repaired before, so ill have to have a think about what im going to do about that, though first things first I have to get it off first! ill hopefully get to tackle that tomorrow, I might just try and take the head off with the manifold still attached, which would be the easier solutuion??
sorry if that was a bit long! "
