Yeah I thought that too, but it's working...

It has always been on PPPoA but suddenly stopped working. It works on PPPoE with my modem router thing, no wireless, just one Ethernet port.

It should be set to PPoA VCMUX encapsulation if you are using a DSL modem only regardles of the provider. PPoE is for connections to a DSL modem via Ethernet.

After a week of calling Pipex every day to find out whats happened with my broadband, eventually getting through to a second line guy, who put me through to third line support... Oh yes mr sutherland, BT have been looking at it, you need to change your password. Oh, that still doesnt work mr sutherland? I will call you in two weeks when you get home from business... WTF?

Anyway, for sh1ts and giggles i decided to reset my router (after trying it elsewhere - worked - and trying others here - didn't) and do a line auto test, it said PPPoE... OK, for the hell of it i'll let it try. (No mr sutherland definately PPPoA) bing, got my net back

Obviously with Pipex being bought by Tiscali, and then by Talk Talk, the setting needed changed but they havent bothered to tell anyone, including themselves... Idiots.

    Back on topic....

Now I have net I can look for bit again

    So far the list is:

    Head Bolts (Aelred)
    Gasket set (pos Aelred too)
    Clutch, sachs (dunno)
    Bearings (dunno)
    Rods (dunno)
    Timing Chain (audi)

Got a couple other bits and bobs to do at same time but if you guys want to recommend the person you got your stuff from then feel free

I thought this too, mine is one of the last cars made, and it deffo has not got an all steel gasket, and it is the original one from factory....

So, do ARP not do head bolts? I don't want studs!

If I remember right early cars had paper head gaskets and later steel, with some noted anomalies.

Good luck getting it up and running again.

I thought it was supposed to be a steel one but pretty sure mine is paper.

Thanks for the help so far.

Can anyone confirm that arp number, or k1 rods? And what shells! Ta

Standard audi gasket is an all steel affair anyway, Sachs race clutch cover (707) then a choice of 6 puk or full face clutch, Don't see many threads where people complain about their clutches although not the cheapest but best never is

    Damn car!
I have had my Southbend stage 4 in for a few weeks now and although a little stiffer than stock, I got used to it in days (although the wife complained at first) and now I think it feels normal.

The feel is perfect for the road and bite is amazing - full bore launches with no slip

Speak to Marc at EFI Express for some good info and good prices.

    Cheers n

Mike, met at knockhill (blue RS2)

Cam sprockets, teeth are surprisingly rounded, noted this when I rebuilt my engine so don't think you have an issue there but deffo new chain

Head gasket, use compression dropping multi layer steel gasket which is basically 2 head gaskets split taking the top shim and thick shim from 1 and thick shim and bottom shim from the other then pop rivit them back together, was shocked when I got mine from 034 and that was what they had done, they were standard reinz gaskets, by memory drops CR to about 8.6, 8.7

will go well with the CT355 you are going to use, looks like I may use that turbo as well in the near future in place of the 3071

    Paul
