the 'leak' suggestion was already discussed...could have been on motorgeek...in any case there are NO leaks in the system - the PCV is deleted and vented to a catch can...I've gone over the system more than once with this issue...it's either something to do with the throttle body/idle switch, the ISV as you suggest or the mapping...

it could also be a combination of things - for example the MAF in blow-through AND the idle switch faulty...what I`m going to do now is restore the front, get a new MAF, keep it in the OEM location and start going after the throttle body/ISV...another thing that was coming to mind is the lightened flywheel - perhaps the RPM drops too quick for the ISV to react - not sure...

the new project is a 2.0TDI A4 quattro for the Canadian Rally Championship...250hp/450ftlbs will surely put a smile on my face

MAF should not really make it stall, but read 2nd value in group 0 on hot idle.

As for light flywheel - yes, could be, but that is all perfectly mappable and adjustable. Ecu just needs more spare timing margin and to start catching earlier.

So its really this easy to to convert a fwd to quattro?

I have a B4 80 1.9tdi and a B4 80 2.8 quattro. I want to convert the tdi to quattro, so Im guessing its basically the same setup as you had to begin with?

yup - identical...the 2.8 tranny might be a problem with the TDi...I am guessing there are TDi quattro transmissions? in any case you can get an 01A out of an A4 to go with the TDi...

There are quattro tdi transmissions but only in the B5 not the B4 as far as I'm aware, and they're not that easy to get here in Ireland. Still its not a massive obstacle to overcome.
Of all the threads on all the forums I have read this one is the only fwd to quattro conversion I have seen carried out, and the way you describe it so casually is kinda funny when you read some other threads discussing what a monster of a job it is

I've gone through the entire write up and its well impressive what you have managed to put together more or less in your back yard

thanks...to be honest I've given up listening to the 'it's impossible' opinions you`ll always hear on the internet...

now - I`m in no way saying that the swap is easy for ANY car - for example a MK4 GTi has a different floor plan than an R32 ergo not a direct swap...same goes for the Passat family...but one thing I learned is ALWAYS do your own checking - I wouldn't trust anybody until I poke around a bit...it's funny - while the whole world kept saying it's a horrible task to take the Eastern European guys all said it was a joke to do and is done there daily - no posts to back it up but they know their sh*t....as far as I know the B5 situation is the same btw - front trak vehicles have the same floor plan as the quattro versions...

as for the tranny - the B5 is 'sort of' identical - there are pictures here showing how the mounts don't exactly bolt on but we're talking about simple spacers here it's not a big issue...in any case a 1.8T tranny should be able to keep up with a tuned TDi - not sure if you're going for power here but you can easily get close to 200hp and 400ftlbs out of that engine and you can easily match it with a 1.8T or V6 tranny...my next build is actually a TDi swapped B5 and I`m using the 1.8T tranny for that...

good luck - let us know how it goes....
